Wow! It happens that sometimes you have few questions in mind and you get your answers from unexpected sources. One such issue pressing my mind was the relative failure of 5 year plans after initial success. Now I know. After the 1962 war, we more than doubled our defence budget.

And that took its toll from the 5 year plans. Compare that to Japan or South Korea or West Germany who spent a smaller share of national resources on defense because of enormous defence aid by US, allowing more investment in industry, technology, education, and exports.

So those who argue that Independence ke baad hi Amrika ka dalal ban jana chahiye tha, and if not for Nehru we would've leaned towards US instead of USSR, well now you have the answer. We infact first leaned towards US only, after shedding the NAM principles.
In the year 1965, Pak unilaterally invaded Kashmir. In response to which US terminated the military aid of both India and Pakistan. This move effectively penalised India for no fault of its own and threw India permanently into the corner of USSR for next 25 years.

It was US who kicked us into the corner of USSR, for no fault of ours.

After Sino - India war of 1962,American military aid began to flow in India, worth 120 Million dollars, cost of which was to be borne by US and UK,to fight China. But that came at a cost and soon US pressured us to have negotiation with Pak wrt Kashmir by threatening the aid cut.

Nehru agreed to talks but refused to do any negotiations. (Pak was expecting India to ceede some of the Kashmir valley in negotiations, to which Nehru bluntly refused) Anyway the US military aid continued to flow till 1965 war.

Before the Sino - India war of 1962, Nehru was literally diplomatically bullying the Chinese, and after the war, he was literally back to bullying them again. 😭😶 (Colombo proposal mentioned in this excerpt was entirely dictated by Nehru to Mrs Bhandarnaike)

That was some fine diplomatic maneuvering after war.

Kaul was doing this same nonsense with our army. They penalized Manekshaw (then a Major General, IIRC) because he dared to oppose such tokenism.

Before giving the green light to the Sino-Indian War of 1962, Mao obtained an assurance from the U.S. that it was not planning to activate the Taiwan front anytime soon. (Below excerpts are from the Kissinger's book On China.)

There's a reason why US did what it did to Israel in 1987. There was an Intelligence Analyst in US Navy, he was a Jewish Amercian and he was spying for Israel. Smuggled out some 1 million top secret files to his handlers in Mossad. And he was caught in 1985, convicted in 1987.
Working with US is a tricky thing. US effectively forced Israel to cancel its indigenous fighter jet program in 1987. The entire project was heavily subsidized by U.S. military aid itself and threatened to compete directly with American jets in the global export market.

Funny that he already got the wind that FBI is after him, so he tried to hide in Israeli embassy along with his wife. The Israeli ambassador however threw out him. FBI arrested them from outside the Israeli embassy.
