Young Iowans spoke out this week against new Iowa gun laws that eliminate most permit requirements. The laws have drawn national attention as the country deals with new mass shootings
From yesterday’s press conference... We are disheartened by the unsafe gun and anti-voting legislation that was passed into law this session. We will continue to fight against anti-democratic legislation.
Shoutout to our Johnston High School chapter for volunteering at @MftH to celebrate the anniversary of March For Our Lives. We are so grateful for all of your work. 12,528 meals packed🧡
3 years ago today young people around our country gathered together to say #enoughisenough. While we can’t all be together physically, our minds and hearts are in the same place. We will end gun violence.
People need to stop saying that they can’t wait for things to go back to “normal”. You know what normal is in America??
Mass shootings, genocide, violence, and bigotry.
So don’t tell me you want to go back to normal. Tell me you want to go back to better.
THIS! Background checks are the floor, not the ceiling.
Let’s celebrate but there’s much more to do. @POTUS made a commitment to dedicate $1B to funding evidence-based community intervention programs. Check out our policy demands here. marchforourlives.com/demands…
Universal background checks have passed the house! This is great, but we have more to do. Background checks are the floor, not the ceiling. We gotta invest more in communities to really end gun violence. President Biden promised $1B to communities, let’s get it done.
March For Our Lives Iowa condemns Senate Study Bill 1232 and House Study Bill 254. If either of these bills were to be voted and signed into law, Iowans wouldn’t NOT need a permit to purchase a firearm from a private citizen.
These bills are dangerous because they roll back lifesaving protections that we already have in place. Contact your legislators to voice your concerns. Go to legis.iowa.gov/legislators/f…

March For Our Lives Statement on Introduction of Universal Background Checks Bill in U.S. House of Representatives and Senate
"For decades, our country has accepted tens of thousands of people dying by guns every year as a simple fact of life. Last year, that number was over 41,000 lives lost. This is shameful and embarrassing, and it represents cowardice from too many elected officials who refuse toto stand up to the corrupt gun lobby.
The introduction of H.R. 8 in the U.S. House — a bipartisan bill that will require criminal background checks to purchase firearms legally — gives us a glimmer of hope that we haven’t felt since 2019, when a similar bill was introduced but failed to reach a vote in the Senate. Young people broke voting records in the 2018 midterm elections to make that possible the first time.
ALT This year, young and BIPOC voters who delivered the WH and the Senate expect swift passage of this bill into law. If POTUS truly wants to unify USA, he should lead on passing universal background checks, a solution that is supported by over 90% of Americans, regardless of party.
We are grateful to the bill sponsors who are using their power to protect human life. But even with UBCs as law, we are nowhere close to declaring victory on gun violence in the US. This is a public health crisis, a natl epidemic, that must be addressed with a natl, unified plan. Until we are able to secure proper funding for research and data collection, & support for violence intervention programs in cities fighting everyday gun violence, we as a society will continue to have blood on our hands.
UBCs are the bare minimum we could demand. Young people will never take the pressure off our leaders to adopt all solutions necessary to defeat gun violence. This is the fight of our lifetime and we will win.

ALT Three years ago, Parkland and Coral Springs lost 17 lives. 17 goodbyes that loved ones didn’t know would be the last. An additional 17 people who were injured began the long journey of healing. And two more were ultimately lost due to the unbearable pain and trauma.
We remember all 36 lives touched.
Every day, we work with them in our hearts and in their honor to end the epidemic of gun violence in America.
To all the people that hate us for trying to make the world a better place I hope you get the help you need because happiness is not gonna come from hate.
It comes from working hard, doing good and having great friends.
Hate all you want- we will prove you wrong.
