NIL, paying athletes, NCAA - congressional action? Cook: We need the federal government to step in. The chaos is unlike we've had before. Bill now isn't perfect, but addresses many issues. Look at the Cruz bill as a great start - need to get behind it to move forward.

Will ISU play Tx Tech? Cook: Everything on the table. I will have more information in a couple of days. We'll determine together in how we move forward.

Sports - athletes betting, TX Tech QB - approach to future Cook: There's been conversation in Big 12 office. On Monday, all conference presidents will get an update from the commissioner. Move forward together after the info is presented.

Higher Ed leanings Cook: In our Cyclone Civics program, we have two faculty who lean right and left. We deeply understand the need to have diverse background. That's part of the DNA we're already doing.

Civics Ed requirement Cook: We have a year to put the plan together. We do have Cyclone Civics program now. Provides a balanced approach. State dollars already there to build it. Now to adopt the new expectation from XGR. Two classes taught.

Cook: Some education and facility and long-term research work. Much to get figured out.

XGR - nuclear power research Cook: Regents will decide how money is split to universities. We have a history on education on nuclear engineering. Likely first step is minors or certificates to inform students on the topic.

Cook: One of our top AI researchers teaches English - how to use AI ethically in the classroom. Help students to think the right way. How do we use it in a comfortable. This is the back side issue - how create efficiencies - budgets, enrollment, scholarships.
109
Students be critical thinkers importance w/ AI Cook: I'm learning every day on this topic and others across campus. We'll have to embrace ethical use of AI. I believe the future has to be tied to industry. They want good communicators, problem solvers. Have to be true.

Kansas nitrate work - ISU work now Cook: Part of the 100 days have been to talk to commodity groups and leaders. An important issue. This will be an area we build and grow on. I see us investing in this space of nitrate work - could be more research, extension and education side

Degree differences - Community Colleges Cook: That bill didn't pass. We have existing relationships with all the CCs in Iowa. Our future is to value the great value CCs do and build on the track record with them.

Tuition increase Cook: Student affordability. That comes up a lot from current students - important topic for all. Do what we can to be lean and efficient. Alumni help with donations for scholarships. About half our students graduate without student debt.

Value of a degree Cook: I love higher ed and how it can change lives. Believe deeply in the value of ed and challenge it. Take criticism and get better. Look at 4 year degree person vs not one over a career. There are many paths to success.

New programs Cook: Health spaces - degrees of the future. Modalities are part of it. Role of AI and how it looks like for all of us. Look at new degrees in agriculture in how we are going.
76
31K students - enrollment cliff Cook: It is here. Fewer born 18 years ago - going to hit all areas. Working on retention and investing in student experience is key. As a land grant, we care about the state and workforce. Think about academic degrees that align with needs of IA.
