Óglach Frank Ryan died on this day June 10th 1944 in Dresden, Germany, a previous member of the East Limerick and Dublin Brigade IRA, best known for leading the 'Connolly Column' with the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War against Franco's fascist forces in 1936.

On June 7th 1981, Óglach Tom McElwee from Bellaghy in South Derry prepared to join the Republican hunger strike in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh, he began refusing food the following morning as the protest reached its 100th day with 4 hunger strikers dead and no resolution in sight.
