Delighted to meet the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce recently. I updated the delegation on the political and economic environment, regionally and nationally. We discussed the unique opportunities afforded to the north of Ireland as a result of our access to Irish, European and British markets and the thriving all-island economy. I also outlined local factors that make Newry and Armagh a more attractive place to live, work and invest in. That includes Newry’s regeneration, our strategic location on the Dublin-Belfast economic corridor, improved rail connectivity, road upgrades, fantastic schools and a dynamic local workforce. I will continue to work hard to promote Newry and Armagh, to support better regional growth and the creation of more good-quality jobs.

Economy Minister Dr @CArchibald_SF today was a guest speaker the opening of iReel’s new Belfast office. iReel is an Australian sports data analytics and artificial intelligence start-up company. The Minister said: “I have seen at first hand the importance of inward investment by technology companies in the AI industry, such as IReel, to the north’s economy. This is a high potential sector in which we have the potential to be world-leading.” At the event the Minister promoted the north’s value proposition to a delegation of Australian businesses from the @IrishChamber who are on a 5 day fact finding mission to Ireland.

What a show from the @IrishChamber for St Patrick’s Day as we had dancing and the harp and heard about the growing Irish/Australian trade relationship. Thank you Invest Northern Ireland for the invite.

I was delighted to meet with the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce to discuss exciting opportunities to attract investment, create new jobs and to better people’s lives. We must seize the huge economic opportunities created by our unique access to both the EU and British markets. I am determined to get back into the Assembly, and to work with all parties and business leaders to grasp the opportunities to grow our economy.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Simon Crean. I had the privilege of spending time with him through my work with @IrishChamber alongside @EurAusBiz & Jason Collins. I found him great company, blessed with great wisdom & an unflinching advocate for Australia. He will be missed.
