This was one of those rare moments when it felt like Parliament really mattered. One of Harper's best moments as PM.

Al was one of my very best commanders when i was in post. The MOD needs him. This Government needs his knowledge and leadership. If no.10 wont listen to him and Healey we really are screwed.

🧵Calling Israel a “European colonial project” may sometimes be ignorance. But it’s a lie. Mizrahi Jews — who never lived anywhere but the Middle East for 2,500 years — are the largest group in Israel (between half and ~61%). They weren’t colonizers. They were ethnically cleansed from Arab lands in the 20th Century. The colonial myth requires erasing them. 🧵

Bloody hell. That's the third resignation this morning. Keir Starmer might as well turn out the lights. Al Carns would be a very capable replacement, IMO.
We owe those who serve the UK the kit to do the job and the loyalty to stand by them when it's done. We are failing on both. I’ve spent my whole time in government making that case. Number 10 will not listen, so I am resigning as Minister for the Armed Forces. Letter to the PM below.🫡🫡🫡⬇️⬇️

Key to remember: Declining to renew the USMCA by July 1 does not end the deal. It remains in force for at least 10 years, it just enters a period of annual reviews. Trump *could* still move to withdraw from the deal, but that's not what he said today bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
