Facebook once bought a VPN app for $120M and turned it into a surveillance tool that spied on 33M users' entire phones for years. This app helped Zuck buy WhatsApp for a whopping $19B and break Snapchat's encryption. Thread

Hearing reports of lots of scam HMRC emails asking you to "click here" to verify your recently submitted VAT return. Phishing emails are always being sent but hearing a lot of different variations in last few days, so just remember never click a link in any email.

One for you @UKLabour and @RachelReevesMP. These duty bands are unworkable. And they won’t generate any more revenue. Just “Brexit benefit” red tape. Is the @BBCr4today programme aware of this? Lots of stuff about farmers. Nothing about the wine and hospitality businesses.
Sunak’s wine legacy. The highest rates of duty on wine in Europe, with 64 bands of duty (to replace just 2!) from 1 Feb 2025. Will the next government do the right thing - it’s a simple move - and help businesses and consumers? My monthly newsletter… newsletter.bauduc.com/t/y-e-…

In May this year, @LordPeterHendy pressured my now-former employer @SYSTRA_UKIRL to sack me by threatening them. Why did he do this? Because I'd highlighted safety and accessibility issues at Euston station. He is unfit for office and should resign. politico.eu/article/uk-rail-…

VAT avoidance reaches new heights as automatic but opt-outable 15% added restaurant’s bills bit.ly/3U8CeV2 Because it is not compulsory but a voluntary payment no VAT is charged on it. If it was just added to each price it would be VATable

Was considering these guys a few years back, never got a straight answer about fees, the 5% fees tucked deep into the 30 page contract, glad I passed on this.

Not enough time to figure out what impact this will have with UDA/contract, such a short time to opt out, almost feels designed to opt you in by default.
