Apple Music recently introduced a new feature called Discovery Station that can help fans discover artists they haven't listened to yet.
Comparable to some of the algorithmic playlists that other streaming services offer, Discovery Station serves listeners songs that they haven't listened to before based on recent listening habits.
The Discovery Station appears in the "Listen Now" tab of the app in the same section as your personalized station.
Unlike your personalized station, which provides a mix of songs you've already listened to, Discovery Station recommends music you haven't pressed play on yet.
The move is a step into the algorithmic (dare I say...the algorithmic abyss?) - encouraging artist discovery in another medium besides human curation.
It'd be interesting to see the conversion rate of how many streams from a given song come from being recommend in Discovery Station along with how often it was recommended!
