2023 book thread 📚 I want to read more this year instead of phone scrolling and watching bad daytime TV while on maternity leave! Aiming for a mix of fiction, history and CPD to get me ready to go back to work!

Big fan of ‘one point of reference’ formats and this summative multiple choice quiz is a great one. Students answer topic wide questions, building in difficulty. From this, areas to work on can be identified and Q’s returned to for revision #historyteacher docs.google.com/file/d/1ApA0…

After a long, difficult term with too much low level behaviour draining my energy while ill, it was lovely to have my faith restored by y10s competitive revision timelines 🙂 they smashed it!

This morning I’ve been working on some GCSE materials for opposition to the Nazis. Bringing back some lessor known individuals such as Joseph Fath, Paul Schneider, August Landmesser and groups like the Jehovah’s Witnesses #historyteacher

A thread talking through our new scheme of work on abolition, beginning here with an intro to the TAST. Students learn about when and where the trade emerged, and analyse the role of different groups in the development of the trade. All resources here: shorturl.at/fjB45

Dates for GCSE students are often a stumbling block. Kept it simple with Y10/11 with the ‘Date and Event Match Up’. Pupils match the dates/events first, which is then peer marked and followed up with a recalled explanation. Basic format but effective/adaptable. #historyteacher

Here's a nice little task if you are teaching empire - The Empire Plate. I originally took it from an old SHP resource book. I haven't used it for a number of years and it needed a bit of an update #historyteacher

Wow! Anyone who teaches with a visualiser and PPT Insert -> Cameo then select your camera shape When visualiser is attached, click on cameo shape, then in the toolbar, camera format -> camera preview then select visualiser Even more fun on a Mac as you can select an iPhone!
For anyone who teaches using a PowerPoint but also wants to use their visualiser - the cameo function on PowerPoint will change your life. Embed the visualier directly into PPT slide so no more faffing around going in and out of PowerPoint

What can we find out about the Vikings from Peter Frankopan’s book ‘The Silk Roads’? This lesson is built around a piece of guided reading. The pupils have to read through the extract and identify points that match one of four headings #historyteacher
