Join Arathi Menon in Manchester on the 9th June
Can you help? We’re launching the emotional rollercoaster and gorgeous literary fiction novel ‘Da’ by Arathi Menon at Queer Lit bookshop, Manchester, on Tuesday 9th of June. Unfortunately, we have been told that if we don’t have 25 attendees by next Friday, the event will be cancelled! We know how last minute event bookings usually are - and unfortunately we won’t have this promotional time now. Do you think you could share the event link to help us reach Manchester readers? socialrefuge.com/event-detai… This is a story of love between a father and a son. Inquisitive 13-year-old Ved’s entire universe is his adoptive father, Da. From cooking him the perfect biryani, to helping him navigate his first school dance and his first girlfriend, Da lets Ved be himself. Fiercely loving and fiercely protective, their relationship harbours a secret that could destroy them both: Da is gay at a time when Section 377, a colonial law, makes homosexuality a crime. Beyond the law, vigilante gangs prowl the shadows, targeting those they deem ‘unnatural’ as Da and Ved’s happy existence grows ever more fragile. Set in an Indian metropolis in 2013, Da is a tender story of a boy caught between devotion and fear, chronicling the everyday courage it takes to love someone the world refuses to accept. Expect an engaging and intimate discussion exploring identity, family, language, and the power of storytelling. This is a fantastic chance to hear directly from the author about the inspirations behind Da, her creative process, and the personal and cultural threads that inform her work. Whether you're a long‑time fan, a lover of queer literature, or simply curious to discover new voices, this event is for you. Bring your questions—there will be plenty of time for audience Q&A! Books will be available for purchase and signing. Date: June 9th, 2026 Time: 7:00 PM Hosted by: Queer Lit at Social Refuge.

It was nice of the Tory defector @RobertJenrick to set me up for an obvious joke at his expense…

Great to have Tim Farron MP out with us this morning in Lea and Larches. If you want a serious, progressive choice for Preston this May, vote Lib Dem.

Naturally, because this is a liberal argument and I’m a liberal politician, almost nobody will see anything I write on here. Which rather proves my point about X and free speech. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong…

AND taking a grown up view not just attacking the Govt for the sake of it…
Trump is not a reliable ally. His war is pushing up energy bills, petrol and mortgages here in Britain. Whilst Farage and Kemi cheerlead him on, we stood up for Britain The Lib Dems are the only party calling him out. @EdwardJDavey

The Grown Ups are back in the room… good work @EdwardJDavey and @LibDems for picking up on the things you differ on, recognise when you do agree and respectfully focus on issues that are real not just raised to be divisive. How I wish we saw more of this…

A busy day for the team today! Excellent morning canvassing in Woodplumpton, followed by a successful manifesto launch in Tanterton this afternoon. Great conversations on the doorstep and a brilliant turnout. Only the Liberal Democrats can win in Preston this May.

Our Liberal Democrat budget amendments focus on what matters: parks apprentices, protecting heritage, stronger homelessness support, backing libraries and community groups, and tougher planning enforcement. Better priorities. Smarter spending. A stronger Preston.

The bus gate on Corporation Street has been a disaster for Preston, having a detrimental effect on overall traffic flow and harming local businesses. That's why we are urging Lancashire County Council to remove them and consider alternative routes for public transport.

I seem to have upset the @Nigel_Farage fan club - so let me be clear. This man sows hate, lies and division. He is a grifter and a conman. He does not represent the vast majority of Britons. RT if you agree P.s. multiculturalism is great.
