June 14, 1940
The first transport of Poles arrives at Auschwitz from a prison in TarnΓ³w. Among 728 people, there were some 20 Jews. This date is considered to be the beginning of the functioning of Auschwitz.

The Germans occupied Brussels in May 1940. By June 1942, the occupation became repressive. Alice Schiffer rescued & adopted 2 Jewish children- Inge & Lydia Kollman- & placed them in the convent where she cared for them until the end of the war #JFRRescuer

High ranking SS official Reinhard Heydrich was mortally wounded in an assassination attempt by members of the Czech underground. He died on June 4, 1942

430,000 Hungarian Jews were deported to Auschwitz between May & June 1944. Most were gassed immediately upon arrival.
