Thank you Judge Hidalgo for showing up and out to celebrate the Harris County Friends of the Library with us for National Friends of the Library week!
Today Judge Lina Hidalgo visited the HCPL's Barbara Bush Library Branch in Spring, to celebrate "National Friends of Libraries Week" with some of the Harris County Friends of Library (HCFOL) volunteers. HCFOL is made up of dedicated members who support and promote library programs and activities through fundraising, grants and donations. While there, Judge Hidalgo also received her enhanced library card, and checked out two books. What are you reading? Drop suggestions in the comments!

Have you ever wondered how a book gets to you? It may seem like magic, but a book passes through many hands before it gets to you. This month, HCPL follows the journey of a book getting from one borrower to another. Listen to the full podcast here: bit.ly/3pbRL45

Thank you to President @BarackObama for supporting libraries and the freedom to read. And thank you to all library workers on the front lines "fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone." #UniteAgainstBookBans
Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.

Affirmative action was never a complete answer in the drive towards a more just society. But for generations of students who had been systematically excluded from most of America’s key institutions—it gave us the chance to show we more than deserved a seat at the table. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision, it’s time to redouble our efforts.
I wanted to share some of my thoughts on today's Supreme Court decision on affirmative action:
