December is always festive in the @jgb_giraffes Library! We love our candle display for Hanukkah, Christmas & Kwanzaa - making lots of connections. New this year - book page trees! Making latkes for 5th graders this week & gingerbread men for Kindergarteners next week.

This year’s @studentsrebuild theme is #UniqueAndUnited. Read HEY, WALL! with 5th graders & then they each designed a brick for our 5th grade wall. @johnparraart

Love doing this code breaker lesson with our 4th graders! We read CHESTER NEZ AND THE UNBREAKABLE CODE by Joseph Bruchac and then students explore pigpen ciphers. They decode my messages and create new ones for peers to solve.

We’ve held Puzzle Pals twice a month this semester for 3rd-5th graders who want to work on puzzles before school. Wonderful to see kids coming back each session! 🧩

November is Native American Heritage Month and that means our 2nd graders hear FRY BREAD by Kevin Noble Maillard and sample homemade fry bread.

Can’t wait for our author visit with TRACEY KYLE on Friday! Students @JGB_Giraffes loved reading about the La Tomatina Festival. 3rd-5th designed tomato faces and the who school shared their thoughts on participating in a tomato food fight.

Had our 1st school-wide virtual author visit for 450 students & staff in K-5 and it was AMAZING! Wonderful hearing Canadian author @lindsayzv share her book DEAR STREET. She was energetic, funny, kind & informative - AWESOME! Excited to kick off a school writing project! ✏️ 📄

Building community & focusing on our House system @jgb_giraffes. Shared BE A TREE with 3rd/4th/5th graders and then they created buttons for their House: Baobab 🟣 Oak 🔴 Olive 🟢 Willow 🔵 Let’s all act like trees and protect each other! 🌳

Met EB & CK Mackie at the @ALALibrary Conference in July. They were SO kind to send a B&W copy of the giraffe page b/c that’s our mascot. Building community @jgb_giraffe by sharing this beautiful book & having K/1/2 students create their own abstract 🦒 Amazing work by all!

Today was our 1st Puzzle Pals session and it was AMAZING! 16 students in 3rd-5th grade @JGB_Giraffes arrived before school to enjoy time together completing puzzles. Can’t wait for the next session!
