Serious Sexual Assault
A woman was raped in the early hours of Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Malton, North Yorkshire, prompting an urgent police appeal for information and a search for the suspect. The attack occurred at around 1.00am near Orchard Fields, to the rear of Tate-Smith Wines, on a rural road in the quiet market town. North Yorkshire Police described the incident as a serious sexual offence and confirmed the victim is receiving support. The suspect is described as a man aged approximately 40 to 50 years old, of stocky build, around 5'10" to 5'11" tall, with facial hair (but not a full beard). Officers are appealing to anyone who saw the suspect or a woman walking in nearby areas, including Sheepfoot Hill, the fire station, or Orchard Fields to come forward urgently. They are also requesting any relevant CCTV, doorbell footage, or dashcam material from the route. Detective Chief Inspector Dave Ellis emphasized that extensive enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the individual responsible. This incident has heightened local concerns about women's safety on the streets, particularly at night in rural and semi-rural areas. Authorities urge members of the public with information to contact North Yorkshire Police immediately.
