Happy #PenguinAwarenessDay! The Zoo is home to five unique penguin species, including the South American Humboldts and Antarctic kings (pictured), macaronis, gentoos, and chinstraps. 🐧 Visit our fabulous flightless birds each day from 9:30 am to 4 pm!

I don't want to brag too much, but 57% of @CS_JMU's featured students (jmu.edu/cise/cs/people/stude…) and 50% of the featured alumni (jmu.edu/cise/cs/alumni/alumn…) were @JMUnixUsers members, and 33% of all of them were club officers.

On Dec. 11, a female southern rockhopper chick hatched at Penguin & Puffin Coast — the first at our Zoo in 11 years!
We need your help choosing a name! Our bird keepers selected 4 potential names for the chick: Pebbles, Opal, Luna and Lumi.

#DidYouKnow: The pattern of spots on the chest and belly of each African #penguin is completely unique. It helps them to identify each other, and it's how our penguin keepers learn to tell them apart. 🐧
