It may have been hot outside, but the turnout for today’s Sheriff’s Walk was great! We appreciate all of the District 6 residents who took the time to meet with Sheriff T.K. Waters and Commander Scott Lundquist. One woman said, “Thank you so much for walking in our neighborhood!” As an agency, this means a lot to us. Hearing directly from you about what’s going on in your neighborhood is our top priority. District 6 is part of our growing city, encompassing the Northside, San Mateo, and Oceanway neighborhoods. If you’d like to get involved and speak directly to Sheriff Waters, our town halls are starting in July. The see the schedule, click on the link in our bio. We hope to see you there!

Dangerous drivers, we’re coming for you. Officers from our Traffic Units teamed up for another Wolfpack traffic operation, targeting reckless drivers across Jacksonville. Officer Scott Tucker made several stops to slow speeders down and reminded drivers to be more careful when on the roads. Our message is simple: slow down. When you drive recklessly, you’re putting not just your life at risk, but everyone around you in danger. We promise getting to your destination a few minutes faster isn’t worth it. So far this year, 86 people have lost their lives on our roads, and we’re not even halfway through the year. The mission of our Wolfpacks is to make our city’s roads safer, one traffic stop at a time. But be warned, we’re not just looking for speeders during our Wolfpacks; our officers are always on the lookout for anyone breaking the law. Drive safe, Duval.

Help us name our newest police service horse. He’s healthy, strong, and ready to get to work on Jacksonville’s streets! The only problem? He doesn’t have a name yet. While it’s a great song, “A Horse with No Name” won’t fly with our Mounted Unit. We need your help narrowing it down between these two picks: Angus and Mac. We think our Mounted Unit officers were craving some cheeseburgers when they brainstormed names. Let us know in the comments below if you’re all about Angus or think it must be Mac. We’ll tally up your comments and announce the name in one week, so get your votesin!

Dangerous guns and deadly drugs are off the street after District 2 Patrol officers served a search warrant. 32-year-old Joseph Danish, a convicted felon, is facing more criminal charges after the officers found the guns and drugs at his house and in his car off McCormick Road. On Sunday, May 31, District 2 Patrol officers were called to the area after a neighbor reported Danish was standing in the road, shooting a gun and making threats. When the officers arrived, they saw Danish run into his house. Officers told Danish to come out, and they took him into custody. Once they determined Danish was a convicted felon who could not legally own a gun, the officers were granted a search warrant for his house and vehicle to check for more weapons. Here’s what they found: -A shotgun -A stolen AK-47 rifle -A revolver -A Glock switch -Hundreds of live rounds of ammo -Several bags of Cocaine and Methamphetamine -More than a pound of Marijuana -A ballistics vest Danish was already on our officers’ radar, as our District 2 Sheriff’s Watch members had voiced their concerns about him during the last meeting. We’re grateful to have our partnership with our community as we work together to make our city safer for everyone.

When every second counts, our K9 teams are ready. On Monday, June 1, K9 Patriot and his new partner, Officer Arthur Tyre, helped find an 11-year-old girl who had run away from her home on the Southside. K9 Patriot immediately picked up on the girl’s scent, leading his handler to the girl’s backpack she had left in the woods. From there, K9 Patriot continued tracking until officers spotted the girl in the woods and returned her to her family. Safe outcomes like this don’t happen by chance. It takes hours of training and trust to make moments like this possible. This was K9 Patriot and Officer Tyre’s first track together, and we’re excited to see this duo continue to do good work.

A drunk driver plowed through the Ironman Jacksonville course in the middle of the race, and it was all captured on one of our officer’s dash cameras. Thankfully, nobody was injured as the driver led multiple officers throughout Riverside, refusing to stop. On Saturday, May 16, Officer Ernesto Valerio with our Specialized Traffic Unit was blocking traffic so the Ironman athletes could complete their 26.2-mile run. Officer Valerio heard on the radio there was a driver who was driving through the bike and run courses, putting the athletes’ and spectators’ lives at risk. Officer Valerio caught up to the car and tried several times to pull the driver over. Officer Valerio’s dash cam caught several different times the driver drove through the race course, nearly hitting the athletes. The dash cam shows Motor Unit Officer Aaron Sanchez putting his own life in danger, attempting to stop the car with his motorcycle. Officer Valerio was finally able to stop the car using a PIT maneuver at the intersection of Riverside Park Place and Park Street, with other nearby officers assisting in the arrest. The driver, 62-year-old Darrell Simon, was taken into custody and arrested on eight felony charges and nearly a dozen misdemeanors and violations. This was Simon’s third D.U.I. arrest in the last 10 years. We are incredibly proud of our officers for putting their lives on the line in this moment to protect the Ironman athletes and spectators from what could have been a tragedy.

We want to say a big ‘Thank You' to Head Coach Liam Coen and the @Jaguars for hosting three of our all-star officers at one of the team’s practices! The Jaguars invited Officer Antonio Richardson, Officer Joseph Neighbor, and Officer Brandon Creighton-Nelson to meet the players after the trio saved a young man from taking his own life on the Dames Point Bridge. The body-worn camera video of their interactions reached millions of people across the world and opened conversations about mental health. Our officers don’t do their jobs to make headlines or get attention, but it is always nice to see them get extra appreciation and recognition. Once again, thank you to Coach Coen and the entire Jaguars team for showing support for our officers! DUUUVAL!

We’re back with another click it or ticket reminder. Traffic safety is always a priority for us. Officer Morgan Smith and Officer Karim Saoud from our Traffic Enforcement Unit gave a wakeup call to people who weren’t wearing seatbelts. In this case, Officer Smith gave the driver the benefit of the doubt and issued a warning. She still took time to remind the driver on the importance of seatbelt safety. No one is perfect, but it doesn’t take perfect to buckle up and potentially save a life. Drive safe (and be kind), Duval.

More deadly drugs are off our streets after our Narcotics Unit detectives removed more than 7,000 potentially fatal doses of Fentanyl and other illicit drugs from a bust in the Magnolia Gardens area. Our detectives learned our suspect, 32-year-old Allen Johnson, was selling drugs at a motel off Edgewood Avenue. Our detectives worked to build evidence against Johnson and receive a search warrant for his room at the motel. At one point during the investigation, Johnson moved to a different motel off Edgewood Avenue, continuing to sell drugs from the new room. Our detectives didn’t give up. We received a search warrant for his room, and on Friday, May 15, our Narcotics Unit and our SWAT Team served the warrant. Here’s what we found: -14.8 grams of Fentanyl (7,400 potentially fatal doses) -333.9 grams of Cathinone -50.9 grams of Powder Cocaine -22.8 grams of Crack Cocaine -20 grams of Methamphetamine -2.5 pounds of Marijuana We arrested Johnson for a dozen felony charges. If you believe someone is selling drugs in your community, speak out. We want to know. Report any suspicious activity to us by calling 904.630.0500. Our Narcotics Unit investigates every tip we receive, and we will stop at nothing to get these dangerous drugs off our streets.

Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters and Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey shared details about an officer-involved-shooting that happened on Kline Road East on Sunday, June 7, 2026.  Around 6:00 p.m., District 2 Patrol officers responded to an armed domestic dispute call. Upon arrival, the suspect’s grandparents met with officers. They said their adult grandchild, who lives behind the home, had threatened them with a firearm during a confrontation. Officers were given permission to enter the backyard where the suspect was currently inside of the shed. Officers tried calling the suspect, 22-year-old Kaiyan Alex Atkinson, out of the structure. Atkinson eventually exited the shed but did not comply with officers’ commands. Atkinson then ran toward the front of the house. With guns drawn, officers commanded the suspect to show her hands. Atkinson then reached inside of her waistband. An officer then deployed his taser, striking her. Shortly after, she pulled a firearm from her waistband and fired one shot toward police. Two officers returned fire, striking Atkinson multiple times. Officers disarmed Atkinson and performed CPR and life-saving measures until the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department arrived and transported her to a local hospital, where she is in critical condition. The officers who fired the shots are Officer J. Lenn and Officer N. Iezzi. The officer who deployed his taser is Officer J. Kernodle. No officers were injured in the incident.  This is the 11th officer-involved-shooting this year for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The State Attorney’s Office is on scene conducting an independent investigation. Once that investigation is complete, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own investigation into the use of force.

It’s time for another Solved Sunday! You might recognize our suspect this week as the musical mischief from our Wanted Wednesday post a few weeks ago. He is now facing the consequences of his actions. Thanks to your tips and the hard work of our team at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, our musical mischief booked himself a gig inside the Duval County Jail where he can fittingly perform ‘Jailhouse Rock’. Richard Magda Arrested: June 2, 2026 Arrested for: Grand Theft On April 28, 2026, Magda visited a music store on Atlantic Boulevard and stole a Gibson J45 Studio guitar worth nearly $2,500. Turns out, this is not the right way to pick up a new instrument. If you’re going to commit a crime, keep an eye out for your photo featured here soon! Don’t forget to visit our Unsolved Crimes page. You never know who you might recognize.

Let’s talk tags, Jacksonville. Officer Tanner May with our Traffic Enforcement Unit has this reminder: we need to be able to see your license plate. If you have something on the back of your car that blocks your license plate, your tag needs to be attached to the outside of it. Most attachments have a spot to attach your tag to it, so use it. If you don’t, then you may get a ticket. Drive safe, Duval.

Today is Boater Skip Day and while everyone else is skipping work, our Marine Unit is on the job on the water keeping boaters safe. Our officers, partnering with other local and state agencies, have been up and down our waterways to make sure everyone is celebrating safely and responsibly. Whether you're spending the day cruising or anchored, having the proper safety equipment on board, staying alert, and a designated sober boater are necessities. Boating under the influence is a crime and can cost lives. Don’t let a fun day on the water end with you in hot water. Boat safe, Duval.

Buying or selling on Facebook Marketplace? Don’t fall victim to a crime. In the past nine weeks, we’ve responded to 12 dirt bike thefts, all following a similar pattern. A buyer reaches out on Facebook Marketplace, offering to buy the bike. When the seller and buyer meet, the buyer asks to take a test drive and then drives off with the bike before actually paying. We don’t want anyone losing their property this way. Here’s our advice: -If the buyer asks to test drive the dirt bike without giving you money first, say no. -Don’t meet in a secluded location. Our six district substations and our Police Memorial Building downtown are always available for meetups. If they don’t want to meet at our substations, that’s a red flag. Check the comments for the addresses of these safe meetup spots to find the one closest to you. -Take screenshots of your messages and take a photo of the person when you meet up. If something happens, you now have evidence you can bring directly to us. This advice doesn’t just apply to dirt bikes. Shop safely, and if something ever goes wrong during an online sale, we’re just a call away. And if you’re stealing dirt bikes (or anything else) from people on Facebook Marketplace, we won’t let you get away with it.

30 firearms, 4 criminals, and illegal drugs are off the street thanks to a recent search warrant on Jacksonville’s Eastside. Our Community Problem Response Unit (CPR) detectives had been investigating two houses in the Longbranch area for drug complaints. We received search warrants for the two houses, and on Wednesday, May 20, our CPR detectives and SWAT Team served those warrants. Between the two houses, our detectives found 26 rifles and 4 handguns, totaling 30 firearms. We also found Methamphetamine, Xanax, and Marijuana. We made three felony arrests during our search warrants: 28-year-old Justice Johnson, 29-year-old Jaquan Wims, and 47-year-old Leamon Jackson. All three men have ties to gang activity. We also arrested 65-year-old Marcus Spencer. Investigations like this make our community a safer place. These houses are just blocks away from an elementary school. These guns are now out of the hands of criminals and off our streets. If you suspect dangerous activity in your community, report it by calling 904.630.0500.
