All things considered, WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is a game with a very strong identity when played in VR in thsi Brutal Edition, and itās not something you should miss if you are, or once were, a fan of boomer shooters. Itās not perfect, far from it. There are moments where it gets lost in its own ambition. But this is one of those titles that doesnāt try to appeal to everyone. In VR, it asks for your time and a certain mindset toward that old-school design: slower, more sprawling, but also more immersive.
And once you fall into its rhythm, you start to realize that this Brutal Edition isnāt trying to be modern⦠itās trying to be timeless.
My positive evaluation is heavily influenced by the outstanding quality of the port by
@TeamBeefVR . Without it, WRATH would struggle to make it into any top 50 list of my favorite boomer shooters. What we can take away from this experiment is that we truly need the entire legacy of boomer shooters to be brought back in their best possible formāand that form is VR. So yes, I want to see: Blood, Blood 2, Hexen, Heretic, Soldier of Fortune, Unreal, Unreal 2004, Kiss: Psycho Circus, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Red Faction, Kingpin, SiN⦠do I need to keep going?
