Consciousness = Language
I can't stop thinking about how strange it is that large language models are what leads to AGI. it's really weird. it's a form of summoning, almost necessarily, the capabilities you want from a map of reality mediated by words. there are a trillion minds inside an LLM, and we just so happen to have defined a piece of fiction (the assistant) that can write itself into being. In the context of the obvious speed-up of capabilities - I'm really feeling it right now. Things are strange! Very beautiful. Best of all possible worlds. But very strange.

Yep they yanked it
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

ChatGPT is starting to feel like Skype. Defined the genre so hard that people use the brand name instead of the category name, but slowly losing out to competitors and becoming irrelevant.

This makes me want to see it
Possibly the weirdest major motion picture I've ever seen. I don't even begin to know how to rate it. I have no idea if I liked it or not. It was just really, really strange. Very Spielberg in a lot of ways, but stranger than anything else he's done, I think. Others may see it completely differently. I have no idea. Weird.

Have interviewed several IRA members they *were* very, very good at this
After taking this photo of burned out houses in East Belfast, two local lads scrolled through my phone photo library to ensure I hadn’t captured any faces, telling me “with no animosity, like” to “fuck away off before you get kneecapped”

How is this a full-length movie
First look at a dude getting eaten by a whale in ‘WHALEFALL’. The film follows a scuba diver who must escape a sperm whale's tummy before his oxygen runs out.

Leaving Las Vegas is the only truly accurate movie about extreme alcoholism I've ever seen.
Replying to @JoyceCarolOates
I realized this when I watched the film "Leaving Los Vegas" very late one night after my husband had died--suddenly, I totally understood this film & Cage's performance. before, I'd had no interest in seeing it at all, as I had thought it glorified alcoholism. but--the contrary. it was a revelation how my own experience had transformed my experience of the film & others like it exploring the roots of addiction.

Sounds awesome
I want someone to fund my idea of a Davos-style event where every speaker has recently retired. You would then immediately hear the unvarnished truth about absolutely everything.
