Fantastic to see the super Yellow-crowned night heron at Belcarra today. Showed well pretty much all day, giving stunning views to everyone that came for it. Probably the best bird on my Irish List. Good to see @LGeraty9 and @Eanin1 also!

Some more shots of the puffins on Great Saltee. They really saved the trip over. My first time seeing them well in a few years

Just found STEPPE WHIMBREL at Lake Sorkol, Zhanaqala, west Kazakhstan!!!! One of two with a flock of orientalis Eurasian Curlews. Declared extinct in 1994, but now with an estimated world population of fewer than 100 on earth! @zootherabirding @BirdGuides

Painful dip on Ireland’s first Trumpeter Finch on Saltee Island this morning with @aaronlongni . This White-winged Black Term showed nicely at Tac this afternoon, as did the Saltee Puffins. Still would’ve given anything for the finch

Great to see the showy Red-Footed Falcon in Co. Louth over the weekend. Despite the torrential rain, it still showed down to a few feet. Bonus Glossy Ibis also after

Yesterday, after 2 hours of searching with no luck, I eventually managed to get the American Coot at Lady’s Island. Just the 8th for Ireland. At one point, it swam into a close corner and gave crippling views. Bonuses of lesser scaup and spoonbill

Delighted with these 2 Tundra Bean Geese in Longford today ✅ shame that the Taiga Beans didn’t play ball, but happy nonetheless. Great views

A great day in the west! Started with Ireland’s second ever redhead, which was a bit distant in choppy conditions and bad light, but still showed quite well (in the pic you can see the peak above eye, steep forehead, and rounded head) and a Iceland gull in Limerick City

Tacumshin, Co Wexford delivers yet again! Went for the Bewick's swans ✅ and news of a Pied billed Grebe ✅ came through while we were on site. Fastest 100 meters I have ran in a while 😂 with @Bonsai_goat

Happy New Year all! An incredible year of birding, perhaps my best yet in terms of quality. 15 ticks bringing me to 265 for Ireland. Bird of the year is extremely difficult to choose, but has to go to the Isabelline shrike. Here’s to another successful year in 2026!

Having dipped this Bufflehead just over a month ago I was delighted when it was refound on Kilbrean Lake. After a 5.30am start, a four hour train journey and a 6km walk, I was rewarded with superb views on Saturday. The 10th Irish record ✅

Brilliant to eventually catch up with the Bittern at Inch Lake, Co Donegal today after a fairly long wait and a near miss! Amazingly well adapted birds to their environment.
