Not the big announcement Peader was hinting at i’m guessing
I have resigned my membership of Aontú.
I have great respect for the many wonderful people I met and worked with in the party — hardworking, passionate individuals who genuinely want to see our country steered in a better direction, both locally and nationally.
I joined Aontú because I believed its leadership truly listened to grassroots members and that policy and strategic decisions, at both local and national levels, reflected that input. Unfortunately, this has not been my experience.
Over time, I came to the view that the party operates in a far more centralised and tightly controlled manner than I had anticipated. Rather than being the grassroots-led movement it presents itself as, I found decision-making to be concentrated within a small, left-leaning, group at the top.
I dedicated significant time and energy to Aontú because I believed it valued internal democracy and meaningful member engagement. However, I have found that loyalty to leadership often takes precedence over open debate, initiative, and the raising of legitimate concerns. In my view, internal democracy should be the pillar around which any political party functions.
Ireland is facing multiple national challenges, and I cannot in good conscience remain part of a party where I no longer have confidence in how it is governed.
I sincerely wish the many dedicated members I worked alongside every success in the future. I now look forward to working with people who genuinely want to see our country steered in a decent direction — people who are prepared to stand up on key issues, encourage open discussion, and put principle above internal politics.
I am immensely grateful to all those who have supported me in my political career so far and for every vote I have received at election.
Thank you.
I look forward to working with like-minded individuals to continue the journey for a better Ireland.
