Congratulations to Jackson EMC delegate Jabe Andrews, a senior at Banks County High School, on being selected by his fellow Youth Tour delegates to represent Georgia on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Leadership Council! Out of 112 delegates participating in this year’s Washington Youth Tour, Jabe was elected by his peers after being named one of five finalists by chaperones. Fellow Jackson EMC delegate Kaelyn Rhea was also selected as a finalist. As Georgia’s representative, Jabe will join 44 other state delegates on the Youth Leadership Council, where he will spend the next year developing leadership skills, learning about the cooperative business model and grassroots advocacy, and serving as an ambassador for electric cooperatives. Jabe will return to Washington, D.C., in July for leadership training, speak at Georgia EMC’s Annual Meeting in November, and participate in the Youth Leadership Council Summit at NRECA’s PowerXchange in San Diego next February. Throughout the yearlong program, Youth Leadership Council delegates gain hands-on leadership experience, strengthen their public speaking skills, and build lifelong connections with fellow young leaders from across the country. Please join us in congratulating Jabe on this outstanding achievement! ⚡

Neighbors helping neighbors extends far beyond our local community 💙 This June, Jackson EMC linemen Brenden Brewer, Josh Nix, Alex Sohltalab and Ben Brissey will travel to Guatemala as part of an NRECA International service project. Alongside fellow electric cooperative linemen from across Georgia, they'll help bring electricity to families in the remote Ixcan region. Electricity changes lives by powering homes, schools and businesses. We're proud of our employees for volunteering their time and talents to make a difference for others. Join us in wishing them safe travels as they represent the cooperative spirit and help bring power to a community in need. #JacksonEMC

Ever wondered if snakes can cause power outages? They can! Our linemen have to be prepared for those encounters in the field. 🐍⚡ During a monthly safety meeting at Jackson EMC, Southeastern Reptile Rescue spoke to our crews for a hands-on safety training. Crews learned how to identify common snake species, understand their behavior and respond safely while working in the field. To make the training realistic, crews got an up-close look at snakes commonly found across our service area, including a rattlesnake, copperhead, cottonmouth and rat snake. “Anytime we can give our employees practical, real-world knowledge that helps them stay safe in the field, it’s worth the investment,” said Stephen Poole, director of safety and training. Safety is about preparing for every condition crews may face even the scaley ones. #JacksonEMC

Outlet Safety 🔦 Your safety matters to us. Overloaded electrical circuits are one of the leading causes of house fires. The good news is there are simple steps you can take to protect your home and family. During National Electrical Safety Month in May, take a few moments to check how you're using outlets in your home: ⚠️ Avoid using extension cords or multi-outlet adapters for major appliances. ⚠️ Only use one appliance, like a space heater, per outlet at a time. If you rely heavily on extension cords or power strips, it may be time to have a qualified electrician to install additional outlets. 👇 Learn more about outlet safety: bit.ly/3PvhJlS. #JacksonEMC
