Before people get their spurs takes off, can we all remember there was a competition to see which 30 teams were the best and the spurs finished a close 2nd?

I get it, but miss me with that. I know what I’m seeing with this spurs group. There has never been a more obvious potential dynasty. I don’t think people are fully grasping how young they are. They are 2 years ahead of KD, Harden, Russ trio in OKC. They’ll be back if health and egos cooperate.
The whole "they'll be back" after a devastating Finals loss is about 95% cope. Deep down, you don't want to admit to yourself that you may have just blown your one and only chance There's a reason only 1 team this decade has made it back to the Finals and won after a crushing loss. It's always been hard, and we now live in an era in the NBA where it'll be harder than ever

Listen to Danny Green! He’s lived what the spurs are living. He knows what it takes.

Spurs thread: Off Season Wish List FO first -Extend Wemby -Extend Champagnie -Sign a versatile 6’8-6’10 front court option that can play with or without Wemby -Add another 3&D depth piece off the bench -Don’t extend Keldon. Make him earn it next season -Replace Sean Sweeney with a vet coach

Bryant: his development is so important to unlock lineup versatility. He needs to be prioritized. Work on attacking close outs and finishing at the rim. 1 dribble mid range pull up. Quicken 3 pt shot release. Improve defensive discipline.
28
Harper: Change shot release so the trajectory isn’t so flat. Improve pull up J so he will be unguardable. Prepare for more primary actions and reads to be able to run an offense
31
Castle: Improve midrange pull up J now that teams know he’s gonna bully to the rim. Tighten the handle. Continue to improve 3 ball
35
Fox: Get the ankle healthy and improve 2 man chemistry with Wemby. I thought it lacked all season. Timing and reads were off a lot. Improve C&S and pull up 3. Become ok with being more of a peer to Harper and castle. Put any ego aside to help the team. Move past any finals mistakes.
37
Wemby: Continue to improve big man skills and physicality. Form a stronger offensive identity and trim the junk out from his game. Post footwork, hooks, midrange, screens, and rolls to the rim. Practice everything through contact. He’s already come a long way but double down on this stuff. Improve defensive positioning on the perimeter

Long post🖊️ Spurs fans, don’t let the painful nature of HOW they lost let you think that this wasn’t a wildly successful season. We have never seen a team with its 3 best players 22 & under get this far before and lead the NBA finals for 72% of it. Maybe I’m naive, but I have never been more confident that rings are coming soon. I’ll go as far to say that this result will be more beneficial to the group long term than a championship this year. It will harden and fuel them to the level needed to get over the top instead of celebrating a win all summer. Spurs fans should know better than anyone the triumph that painful losses can bring. I don’t want Fox traded, i don’t want Mitch gone. It’s not the spurs way. People wanted Pop fired and Manu to retire in 2013. Everyone said the spurs should blow it up in 2011. Instead, they stuck together for an amazing result. I don’t want foundational changes to a young team that were a few plays away from a ring. In 10 years, I bet we will look back on this loss as the stepping stone to a dynastic run. GSG

The spurs overreactions are crazy right now. Mitch is not getting fired and Fox is not getting traded this summer.

To be clear, the Fox concerns are valid, i just don’t think they’re gonna get a good trade for him when his value is this low. Makes more sense to try to work it out.

Astonishing stats about the Spurs this season (106 games): 1) Never lost more than two games in a row 2) Only lost by more than 15 points twice (OKC in Jan & Knicks in Mar) 3) Only team with two undefeated months (Oct & Feb)

Wow
According to ESPN Analytics, in the 4 games the Spurs lost in the NBA Finals, they had a... — 91.6% chance of winning Game 1 up 13 points midway thru the 3rd — 72.8% chance of winning Game 2 up 2 points with 1 minute left in the 4th — 99.6% chance of winning Game 4 up 20 points with 9:33 left in the 4th — 95.4% chance of winning Game 5 up 10 points with 7:54 left in the 4th

Extremely thoughtful thread and I agree with every word
I mostly made peace with the series being over after Game 4, so I think I can say a few things with a pretty clear head: 1) This is a brutally disappointing finish, but it’s also an incredible surprise to even be in the position to disappoint at this stage level of competition
