Now with 100% more Bluesky! / UX guy and general geek in Durham. I’d put what I’m nerdy about but I keep getting spam followers, thanks Elon. @triuxpa & @uxyall
"Jake Geib-Rosch has lots of style, but isn’t posh.
He moves around sometimes, and yet is rarely heard to slosh.
An all-star seasoned veteran, no newby greenhorn frosh,
He designs User Experience on his nice Macintosh."
--a coworker
Until @ABCNetwork stands up for free speech against a coercive
Government, I will be boycotting. I’ve already canceled @DisneyPlus and we’ll dearly miss Bluey.
So I almost never post to the socials anymore but I saw the most insane ad I think I’ve ever seen on my phone tonight in the news app while reading about the DNC.
What in the fresh hell is this even?
Do you like board gaming and meeting UX people? Come hang out at Weldon Mills in downtown Durham at the @triuxpa game night!
FYI - Weldon Mills has permission to use the parking deck directly next to the entrance even though it says OMG NO PARKING all over it.
Welp just encountered the darkest pattern I’ve seen yet and it has reinforced my desire to not use Uber whenever possible.
I signed up for a long free trial with uber one for Starbucks deliveries. I get billed for a month after it ends. So far, fine. I knew what I was doing. /1
Dig up login info to log in on my computer. No luck in those menus.
Watch a YouTube video that shows that previous learn more article with a text box at the bottom. Return there and the box no longer exists, but live chat is there. /3
Live chat resolves the issue. I was direct and not rude, but I can’t imagine how many angry people they must deal with. Poor souls.
It cost me 45 minutes to cancel a $10 subscription fee that was unsurprisingly frictionless to sign up for under the free trial.
#darkpatterns
So I dig around in various levels of menus and find cc info that it won’t let me remove. Annoying but okay.
Find a separate Uber one area and a separate account area. Nothing here. Find ‘learn more’ menu, find a how to cancel article that misdirects me back up menu levels. /2

Speakers at UX Y’all share a variety of topics. From hands on design workshops to inclusive design strategies, there's always something new to learn. What can you teach us this year? The 6/20 Call for Speakers deadline is fast approaching! 🔗 bit.ly/3Bwp2yM
ALT Jacquie Goyena and Elizabeth Paker presenting their talk "How to have productive conversations about race with designers" during UX Y'all Conference 2022.
The 2023 theme is The Breaks. Think lucky breaks, putting on the brakes, and things you have broken (either by accident or design).
What lessons can we learn from breaking apart systems, designs, culture, and our environments?

I just tried to put a dumb check mark emoji after my name just being dumb and got this cryptic error. All the other emojis I tried worked so I just used a bag of cash instead. Same diff I guess.

I dunno. Just please please please please please don’t unban Trump @elonmusk? While awful/irresponsible speech shouldn’t be illegal that doesn’t mean it should necessarily be condoned.
Sigh. Mastodon severs were struggling a few minutes ago. Guess that’s good & bad.
¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
Well it’s been a week since @UXYall, and I can’t express my gratitude for the triangle UX community for putting on such a terrific conference.
A ton of people put in a ton of effort and the results were incredible. Going to put a couple thank yous in a thread here.
🧵
This year I got to speak! (I may or may not have been rejected previously 😉….) It was cool to see things from the speaker side of things, and a huge thank you to @alana_matos811 for doing a stellar job wrangling speakers!
