The World Liberty Congress strongly condemns the Taliban’s recent arrests of dozens of women in Herat Province for allegedly violating the Taliban’s imposed dress code, as well as the reported use of force against peaceful civilians exercising their fundamental right to protest. The international community must not remain silent while gender apartheid is enforced, peaceful dissent is crushed, and fundamental freedoms are systematically denied. An unspeakable evil. Literally. No words will suffice. Congrats to Time however for its coverage, putting other media to shame.
30,000 innocent Iranians killed in 2 days - a rate of killing that resembles Babi Yar in Holocaust, says Time: “The only parallel offered by online databases occurred in the Holocaust. On the outskirts of Kyiv on Sept. 29 and 30, 1941, Nazi death squads executed 33,000 Ukrainian Jews by gunshot in a ravine known as Babyn Yar." time.com/nextgen-preview/722…

The Taliban have now banned books written by women, adding to their daily wave of new restrictions. This is blatant discrimination against women. Where are the UN, Amnesty, ICC? Why the silence in the face of Taliban crimes against Afghan women and girls? #FreeAfghanWomen

Three years ago, Mahsa Amini was murdered by the Iranian authorities. Her name became a symbol of courage for the world. My heart is with the fearless women of Iran who risk everything against tyranny—and with all brave women who fight for freedom and human rights worldwide.

I am endlessly moved by the women of Belarus. With nothing but their voices, white dresses & flowers, they stood against guns, beatings & prisons. They carried our revolution on their shoulders, with courage stronger than fear. Their bravery is the ❤️ of our fight for freedom.

The anniversary of the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia reminds us that freedom is never given—it must be defended. We honor the heroes of 1968, including Belarusians who supported the Prague Spring, as we continue our own struggle for freedom and democracy in Belarus.

Prof. @JacquiTrue and Prof. @williammaley1 called for stronger international engagement, warning that silence and selective responses only embolden repression. The conference urged a united and principled global response to human rights abuses. There are signs of more pragmatic engagement, but no broad recognition. The danger is that quiet normalisation erodes leverage without gaining rights.

Where are the headlines? This mother in Iran is about to be hanged and I really feel helpless seeing silence from the big names, the anti-war activists in the West, the feminist leaders, the so-called free world leaders. Her only “crime”? Fighting for freedom and dignity for her son and a better future. The regime wants to kill her for wanting justice. And the world looks away. Why are the global justice and feminist movements silent? Where are the protests? This is not about politics. This is about basic humanity. What does it mean for justice, when those who once marched against oppression turn their eyes away from a woman who seeks nothing but fairness and humanity? This execution is not only her death sentence, it is a test of our collective humanity. #SharifehMohammadi
Today, the Iranian regime confirmed the death sentence of Sharifeh Mohammadi, a mother, a labor activist, and a defender of women’s rights. Her only act was standing up for justice and dignity. Now she faces execution, leaving behind a young child who may never again feel her embrace. This is not just an attack on one woman, it is an attack on every mother who dares to dream of a better life for her children. When injustice threatens the most vulnerable among us, our silence becomes consent. We must raise our voices for Sharifeh, because her fight is the fight of us all. #SharifehMohammadi

cc Senator @larissawaters; Iran’s Supreme Court Upholds Political Prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi’s Death Penalty. Let’s escalate: table a Senate urgency motion; press @dfat to summon the Ambassador; push Magnitsky-style sanctions on judges & security agents #StopExecutionsInIran
Today I've written to the Iranian Ambassador, stating my political sponsorship of Sharifeh Mohammadi. Sharifeh, a worker's rights activist, was detained in December 2023. She's faced torture & solitary confinement & was issued a death sentence for her peaceful union activities.
