I want to sincerely thank everyone who believed in me and supported my campaign for Commissioner of Public Lands. Tonight, I called Dave Upthegrove to congratulate him on a well-run, issues-focused campaign and to wish him success. I ran for this office to protect Washington’s natural beauty, manage our Trust lands effectively, and safeguard our communities from wildfires and smoke. I hope our new Lands Commissioner will keep these priorities in mind moving forward.

The WA state School Superintendent is asking for $3 billion for K-12 education. On Day 1, my opponent wants to lock up 77,000 more acres of state trust land, a plan that would require the state to spend another $2 billion to replace the value of those lands. In addition, this decision will cost schools, fire departments, EMS and hospitals $1.35 billion, which they rely on and which could make or break a hospital. It will also cut recreation, reduce wildfire capabilities, cost thousands of jobs, and destroy habitat. We should be using science-based management to protect the health of our forests and environment, rather than neglecting them and putting them at risk of catastrophic wildfires.

“Washingtonians and their public lands will benefit more from Herrera Beutler’s more-grounded perspective.” Thank you, @thenewstribune for the endorsement!   We live in the most beautiful state, and I want to keep it that way.  As Commissioner of Public Lands, I will work with tribes, scientists, landowners, sportsmen and conservation groups to make sure Washington’s public lands and diverse array of species and habitats thrive. thenewstribune.com/opinion/a…

I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Nation. One of our biggest accomplishments together was repealing a 184-year-old law preventing the manufacturing of some alcohol on Indian land. I was pleased to help place tribes on equal footing and enable them to diversify their economic investments. As Commissioner of Public Lands, I will continue that fight for all Washingtonians.

"If you want to have fewer days in August and September where we see smoke instead of blue skies, then voting for Jaime Herrera Beutler is a good idea." "She'll keep the political activism out of the office and let the scientists do their jobs." I'm deeply grateful to the @chronline for their endorsement!

“As a congresswoman, she demonstrated a wonkish willingness to delve into the details of an issue and she often worked on legislation relating to forests and aquatic environments.”  Thank you, @thecolumbian for the endorsement, and for recognizing that the DNR is a complex agency, critical to the future health of our natural resources and state. #wildfireprevention #conservation #responsibleforestmanagement columbian.com/news/2024/oct/…

Thank you, @seattletimes, for the thoughtful endorsement!   "The lands commissioner must marshal all the state’s resources to prevent the blazes that risk lives, discharge massive amounts of carbon and fill the skies with dangerous levels of heat-trapping smoke.”  For our future generations, we must use environmental science, and yes, I do have the backbone to defend DNR's science-based approach to forest management. seattletimes.com/opinion/edi…

Thank you to the Three Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited for hosting a candidate forum. I truly appreciated the chance to talk about my bipartisan work to increase salmon runs, remove predatory sea lions, and restoration work to restore 9,500 miles of critical habitat. Responsible land management is the key role in the position of Commissioner of Public Lands, and I’m committed to making a positive impact on our environment.

I’m honored by the support from all Washingtonians who made me the leading vote-getter in the primary election for Public Lands Commissioner.  We still don't know who my opponent will be, but my focus won't change – we must responsibly manage our public lands to protect critical habitat, preserve ecosystems and reduce the catastrophic wildfires we've all suffered through over the past decade. I will be the leader who ensures everyone has a seat at the table because when Washingtonians see our forests, I want them to experience a legacy of health and prosperity and we must achieve that together.   We can and must do better for our environment, our health, and our children.  Thank you for your faith in me.
