The Padres said it wasn't an intentional HBP of Orioles' Gunnar Henderson in the 9th inning. Ron Marinaccio: "He's a great hitter. You've got to make hitters like that uncomfortable at times, and I pulled a fastball a little bit too much there." Craig Stammen: "We need to pitch him inside. If he gets extended, he's going to do what he did yesterday. That's part of pitching, is to be able to pitch inside. Pitch between the plate and the body, and it hit him."

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz on the HBP/ejections in the 9th inning: "Trey hit Bogaerts in the head and their dugout didn’t like it at all. Obviously, it definitely wasn’t intentional. It was a two-seam that slipped out of his hand. "I get there why they’re mad, the ball hit him in the head and he had to come out of the game. I’m not saying the ball to Gunnar was on purpose, but it was done the right way. And that’s why there was no gripes from us and Gunnar was fine with it and just took it to first base."

Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson: “I guess they were trying to get payback, so I guess we're even now.”

Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson didn’t think this should have happened after he nearly got hit twice in 7th. “We hit somebody of theirs and obviously weren’t trying to, but it is what it is. You had your opportunity to get it back and they did and missed. So that should have been it.”

Padres RHP Ron Marinaccio was ejected from the game after hitting Orioles' Gunnar Henderson with a pitch with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. San Diego is leading 9-3. Padres manager Craig Stammen later got tossed as well after a long, heated argument with the umpiring crew.

Manny Machado isn't a Maryland native, but he is a future Orioles Hall of Famer -- and he also just went deep in this one. Machado leads off the 9th inning with a home run that extends Padres' lead to 9-3. It was his 5th homer in 15 career games vs. Orioles.
