Watch the illustrated journey of an E. coli cell through the human gut, a microbial mat, the sediment, and back again @IndianaUniv Science Fest.
Don't forget to fill out the <2min survey on the same page; it helps keep outreach activities like this going.

Great work of authors Fultz, McKinlay and Enganti to fully sequence the Arabidopsis NORs (adding the final missing ~9.4 Mbp of the genome), and map the positions of active and silenced rRNA genes within them, is now published, open access ! science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…
TWiV describes how a viral capsid protein activates a bacterial innate immune system that interferes with protein synthesis, and human-associated redondoviruses that infect the commensal protozoan Entamoeba gingivalis. 📺 bit.ly/3YZxOR6

Over the moon to share that I will be joining the Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington @IUBiology as an assistant professor in January 2024!!
Congratulations to @logan_j_geyman for being awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program and Holly and @chaseabiologist for honorable mentions! We are so proud of you all and excited to see what you do!
My first postdoc paper is on bioRxiv! We demonstrate that sequence entanglement--in which two genes are encoded within different reading frames of the same DNA sequence--improves the evolutionary stability of high-cost genetic components. Read more here: doi.org/10.1101/2023.02.27.5…
My 2nd paper is out! We found that PilT primes the extension complex in MSHA pili. Yes- this retraction motor is required for extension!
We started out intrigued by an unusual control strain and ended up revealing interesting facets of pilus regulation.
