Not sure what’s happening at B-Scene (I left a few weeks ago for my own reasons). But getting rid of your top editor along with nearly the entire U.S. team doesn’t bode well for the site’s future.
Last day at @BoxingScene was unexpected and obviously bittersweet, but we had an excellent run featuring one of the best collections of boxing journalism talent you'll find under one roof. Appreciate all my teammates and their superb work over the past two years.

🚨 BREAKING: Have confirmed that the IBF has (once again) relieved Jai Opetaia of his cruiserweight title reign.
Stay of execution was granted through March 19, afer which point Board of Directors voted to declare the title vacant.

I’m perfectly fine with Zuffa and the IBF fighting it out over who’s at fault… I’m also not auditioning for a job, so let’s just state the facts as they are.
Pretending that Zuffa is treating their belt as “just a trinket” is an absurd stance.

Aside from Jai, literally no mention of IBF until Friday. By that time, Zuffa (and RING, while we’re making a list) repeatedly referred to the belt as “WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP” and billed the event as such. Sunday’s winner will be the recognized Ring and Zuffa unified champ.

It’s fine to say the IBF took a grandstanding approach with its timing. It’s also just as likely that Fridays press conference reaffirmed their initial belief of the event treating Zuffa like a “real” belt, which is turn is a betrayal of the assurance given by Opetaia’s team.

If a Champion participates in an unsanctioned contest within his prescribed weight limit, the title will be declared vacant whether the Champion wins or loses the bout.”
