This isn’t a normal “it’s already in a busy area” situation… they’d be building up an entire entertainment district

The #Bears offered 2B to get the stadium built
The said there would be 20k jobs immediately for construction and around 10k consistent jobs when the project is finished
They asked the state to fix fucked up infrastructure that needed to be fixed a long time ago so people could get to and from the stadium
Every NFL stadium has public funds dumped into it, especially new projects… the return is jobs, money put into the economy and multiple other benefits…
And yet all I here is “The Bears wanted a handout”

Give it a few years
Illinois will be losing more than 8 billion annually from the Bears, Caterpillar and multiple other companies… it won’t be long until businesses realize they can move 20 minutes down the road and not owe ridiculous property taxes.
Yeah it looks great now… but with decreasing population, jobs and businesses leaving at a high rate… that number will shrink yearly until they quit trying to bully corporations

Indiana is open to helping facilitate buying out the Bears’ lease at Soldier Field, which runs through 2033, to play earlier in Hammond.
If shovels were put in the ground this summer, the hope is for the Bears to make a bid to host the Super Bowl in Northwest Indiana by 2032.

Purchasing that land before the tax agreements were in place, knowing how the political landscape in Illinois works, was absolute negligence.
Sense then, they’ve had no choice but to play this never-ending game of Chicken with some of the most shrewd politicians in America.
