To my friends who dipped a toe in the water at Mastodon and gave up: Please take another look. It works. Of course it will take time to recreate your network of friends and follows, but with patience it will happen. Then the experience will be better than Twitter ever was.

Now comes the petty tyrant, wielding his tiny whip on behalf of America’s overlords. [If you’re still on Twitter … what would be the last straw?] theintercept.com/2023/09/15/…

So many of @GreatDismal’s characters are well realized in this adaptation of The Peripheral, but none more indelibly than Alexandra Billings as Inspector Lowbeer. She owns every scene. As the inspector should.
Time to meet the one and only, Inspector Lowbeer. Stream episode 1-6 of #ThePeripheral, exclusively on @PrimeVideo.

Attack on LGBTQ , attack on Pelosis, attack on law enforcement, threats against Boston Children's Hospital, intimidation of educators --- all individuals and groups targeted by right-wing media and GOP politicians. Connection is clear to see. Why does the majority tolerate this?

.@laurenboebert you have played a major role in elevating anti-LGBT hate rhetoric and anti-trans lies while spending your time in Congress blocking even the most common sense gun safety laws. You don’t get to “thoughts and prayers” your way out of this. Look inward and change.
The news out of Colorado Springs is absolutely awful. This morning the victims & their families are in my prayers. This lawless violence needs to end and end quickly.

In looking for a Twitter replacement, please beware of any service that will 1) depend on ads and 2) use algorithms to decide what posts to boost into your feed. That inevitably creates a poisonous vicious cycle: chasing engagement, encouraging clickbait, provocation, and rage.

I am the least technical sort of guy, operating on a sense of techno-poetics that has next to nothing to do with actual function.
Replying to @GreatDismal
if the master of cyberspace is still figuring it out, that gives me hope...the sky..the color of a busted TV...etc. Just seeing your name gives me a shred of it.

This thread is bang-on -- @mattbinder enunciates exactly what I've been thinking, as I've watched Musk blunder around with Twitter

all the why Elon Musk bought Twitter theories are overthinking it. it’s simple. Musk is in a right wing filter bubble. he bought Twitter believing their problems were real & that others felt the same this is what happens when you have a lot of money & live in fantasy land
