Reporting on the business of youth sports for @BuyingSandlot. Former NFL and college sports beat writer. Daily Gamecock alumni. Mike Francesa ripped me once.
Steve Tisch now on the field talking to John Harbaugh as players walk-through drills. John Mara, who has been at every minicamp practice, just joined the group.
NEWS: A judge in district court in Lubbock County, Texas, has granted the injunction requested by Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby. He’s set to be eligible for the 2026 season.
If you believe enough, you too can return to a team after you undermined two head coaches and crapped on the most beloved player in franchise history with Lil Wayne sitting next to you.
"The way that I had to walk away, it was unsettling in my soul. I have to do this. This is for myself, this is for my son. I want him to be able to see who I am, not who I was, and know that we never give up in our house. You go after what you believe in."

Sen. Ted Cruz on the threat of defunding/elimination of Olympic sports at universities: "I don’t want to see an Olympic (Games) where every gold medal goes to Russia and China."
All of these universities have the money to fund Olympic sports. They just do not want to do it after a century of making the football team foot the bill. So Washington either has to write the checks or shame the schools into doing it.

The organization leaked the meeting because they're pissed at Dart, he clearly rolled a stinkbomb in their locker room and now they're trying to sweep it away.
My periodic statements of faith: Army and Rutgers should play an annual home-and-home series and Gameday would have come had Rutgers scheduled Army for the 150th anniversary weekend.
This part of the Protect College Sports Act, from @RossDellenger's piece, wouldn't apply to Texas, A&M, OU, USC, UCLA, Oregon or Washington, but *would* apply to Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Cal, Stanford, Rutgers and SMU.
A talkative Tony Petitti finally stumped for a 24 team Playoff. The case he made was understandable, but landed flat.

I feel like this has to violate antitrust law. And if it doesn't, Congress should get involved. You're screwing the Group of Six champions on the front and back ends.

"Twenty-four is the worst possibility I think in the history of this game. ... It is going to devalue, dilute and perhaps destroy the greatest football season of them all."
@finebaum believes that the CFP expanding will harm the value of the regular season 👀
This is 1000% correct. College football was the quintessential American sport, as special and unique as the FA pyramid in England. And it has been ruined by TV suits, greedy chancellors/presidents and the spineless commissioners that do their bidding.
Again this is the ridiculous notion that the only thing that matters is a national championship.
This is a very recent distortion. In the history of college football very few teams were playing for a national championship.
