High-Performance Basketball Coach I WAIS Wheelchair Basketball Head Coach I Paralympic & Able-Bodied Pathways I NBL & 🇦🇺 Program Experience I 35 Yrs Coaching
Looking forward to seeing the team and our 4 @InsideWAIS athletes in action. Also learning from and with the group of staff during this critical event!
"We need to get back to basics!" is an SOS call for failing teams.
At the @PerthWildcats, the basics weren't a rescue plan—they were the daily standard. Even after back-to-back titles, we started every season at Day 1.
Don't "go back" to the basics. Never leave them.
Physical attributes can gift you playing opportunity.
Skill can earn you additional game time.
Decision Making will make you indispensable.
What is your game based on?
Congratulations Black Ducks! A power of work has gone into this performance!! Led by two legends of the game in Shaun Norris and Sarah Vinci. @InsideWAIS
Decision making facilitates skill development.
Psychological Safety facilitates decision making.
Connection facilitates Psychological Safety.
How do you start your season or session?
After 35 years coaching basketball, one thing is clear:
Most players don’t struggle with effort or skill…
They struggle with decision making.
The game is read before it’s played.
👏 @SydneyKings on the 🏆, the @Adelaide36ers on a season that came within a whisker and the @NBL on a fantastic season overall. There were plenty of ups and downs throughout but the finish was about as good as you could script!
The 2026 @InsideWAIS Wheelchair Basketball Squad back at work in the “Lab”! Great to have Basketball WA coach Dan Donaldson join us for this mornings session!!
Grateful to BWA for the opportunity to lead the U20 Men at the 2026 National Championships. Courageous, Relentless and Unselfish. A joy to coach and wonderfully supported by great staff Carlin Hughes, Josh Barham, David Caboz and Tom Papathanassiou
Been an interesting exercise to review the coaches post game press conferences this season. What message they send to their people, especially in the hour after a loss. So much to take from the way @DeanVickerman speaks 👏
