🇯🇵🇺🇸🇦🇺🇵🇭🇳🇿#JGSDF participated for the first time in the field training exercise “#JPMRC/#Salaknib26” in the Republic of the Philippines, conducted with the U.S. Army and others. Through this exercise, JGSDF enhanced its ability to conduct operations and combat missions in a complex operational environment, including emerging domains, while strengthening relationships of trust with the US, Australian, Philippine, and New Zealand Armies. JGSDF will continue to strengthen cooperation with allies and like-minded countries through participation in various joint exercises, thereby contributing to the peace and security of Japan and to earning the trust of the international community.

🇯🇵🇺🇸🇦🇺#JGSDF is currently conducting trilateral field training exercise “ Southern Jackaroo 26 ” (#SJ26) with US and Australian forces in Australia. We are rehearsing joint operational procedures based on extensive intelligence gathering by UAVs and close coordination among trilateral units.

#JGSDF conducted the #ReservePersonnel Central Training 2026 at Camp Asakaand other locations from 4 to 8 JUN 2026. Approximately 60 reserve personnel selected from across Japan participated in camp guard training and observed Fuji Firepower Exercise 2026 to improve their capabilities required to their missions. In addition, GEN Arai, CS, JGSDF held an award ceremony to commend their achievements as reserve personnel and delivered remarks to boost their morale. Furthermore, personnel who had served for 30 years were encouraged by the Minister of Defense.

🇯🇵🇺🇸GEN Arai, CS, JGSDF, visited Camp Zama, where United States Army Japan (USARJ) is stationed, and was welcomed by MG Dooghan, Commanding General of USARJ and his staff on 27 MAY 2026. During his visit, GEN Arai was also briefed on the overview of USARJ’s roll and history at Camp Zama, and further deepened mutual understanding between JGSDF and the U.S. Army. #JGSDF will continue to contribute to strengthening the Japan - US Alliance through key leaders’ engagements between both sides.

🇯🇵🇰🇪MAJ Takemori and three other personnel of the Central Readiness Regiment, who will be sent to the Republic of Kenya as a part of an trainers team under the UN Triangular Partnership Programme(UNTPP) , reported to GEN Arai, CS, JGSDF, upon their departure on 1 JUN 2026. In this training, they will provide training on the Heavy Engineering Equipment Operators’ Basic Course to trainees who are expected to be deployed as peacekeepers. #JGSDF will continue to contribute to improving the international security environment through participation in UNTPP.

#JGSDF participated in the Gender Focal Point Course hosted by the Japan Ministry of Defense from 26 to 28 MAY 2026. In order to promote #WPS agenda within JGSDF, representatives from troops nationwide participated in this course and attended lectures delivered by instructors from Netherlands and UK. They also exchanged views and enhanced their understanding to integrate gender perspectives across various occasions through group activities with participants from the Ministry of Defense (MOD), the Joint Staff (JS), the Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF), the Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF), and the Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA).

🇯🇵🇺🇸GEN Arai, CS, JGSDF, received a courtesy call from LtGenTurner, Commanding General, III Marine Expeditionary Force, on the occasion of his departure, followed by a luncheon on 28 MAY 2026. During the meeting, they sought to deepen their relationship of trust with LtGenTurner, who was nominated as the Commander, US Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, and exchanged views on the future direction of cooperation between JGSDF and USMC. At the luncheon, in a warm and cordial atmosphere, GEN Arai further strengthened ties with LtGenTurner, reflecting on their interactions as counterparts during Arai’s tenure as Commander of the Western Army. #JGSDF will continue to further strengthen the relationship it has built with the USMC.

JGSDF two personnel, who will be deployed to NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) headquarters in Germany, reported their departure to GEN Arai, CS, JGSDF, on 21 MAY 2026. GEN Arai encouraged them to carry out their duties with pride in their experience, based on the recognition that the security of Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific is inseparable. #JGSDF will continue to contributing to improving international security environment by promoting JPN-NATO cooperation and dispatching personnel to NSATU.

🇯🇵🇲🇳#JGSDF launched a Capacity Building Project on PKO (Civil Engineering) for Mongolia at the JGSDF Engineer School on 18 MAY 2026. This program aims to assist the Mongolian Armed Forces’ engineer units in enhancing their civil engineering and construction skills required to build a base camp during their PKO deployments. Following last year’s focus on civil engineering works, JGSDF Engineer School is providing lectures in construction techniques. Mongolian Armed Forces’ personnel are honing their skills with JGSDF instructors through the lectures, practical applications and observation to the equipment display. Through this program, the JGSDF will contribute to further deepening the friendly relationship between Japan and Mongolia.
