Noteworthy that we still aren't seeing the Army experimenting with this on our own Abrams.

C-suite executives without dedicated resources/manning accomplishes nothing. We should be commissioning coders and engineers as warrants.

I like a lot of the elements of this one.
Not entirely accurate to my idea for the GWOT Memorial, but the vision is there. Flame would be at the entrance, not in the tunnel, whose narrowness and descending nature reminds of the WTC during 9/11.

This is a big part of the reason why I insist on driving places instead of flying whenever the option presents itself; you get exposed to parts and elements of the country you'd miss out on otherwise. Helps keep your mental picture of what's really going on out there balanced.
Let me explain why I think Freddy resonates. Lots of Europeans visit the USA as tourists. They visit New York City, or Washington DC, or Hollywood, or Las Vegas, and if they visit natural beauty too, they go to really crowded places like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone. So while they see our cultural and natural icons, they are mostly in blue cities and they therefore also see the decline, the homeless, the drugs, the dirt and the rude, rude Americans. But Freddy is not doing that. Freddy is driving, and he’s doing it through the heartland, where people are kind and polite, the skies are wide open, and the bounty of Buc-ees and Bass Pro Shops are overwhelming. Freddy is not seeing fentanyl and decline. He is seeing the real, hopeful, patriotic, kind America that European tourists rarely traverse. And he loves it. That’s why Freddy is a phenomenon.

Even if the elements have decent explanations, the overall product misses the mark.
GWOT veterans... Take 3 minutes and watch this explanation of the elements of the proposed GWOT memorial. It might change your mind. It did mine. Thanks @JDKeelingIII for sending this my way.

Please make a tweet to your followers about taking their official feedback survey. We cant let them build this. Its unnaceptable and not good enough for our veterans. If you dont want to make a tweet, at least fill it out yourself. Im begging! Here is the link: surveymonkey.com/r/gwotmfini…

AI comes up with far better options for a GWOT Memorial based on a thoughtful prompt. Says a lot about whatever approach was used by the GWOTMF.

The Vietnam Memorial aged very well, I think largely for two reasons; its solemn simplicity and the fact that it centers the sacrifice of those who died in the war. GWOT deserves at least as much.
I've been reading articles this morning about some of the criticisms of the Vietnam Memorial when its concept was first announced. It was criticized for: - using the color black - the abstract minimalist design - lack of military tradition - the artist’s Asian heritage It’s interesting because to me the Vietnam Memorial is “the standard” for honoring those lost in war. It immediately hit me when my dad first took me to see it when I was 13 years old. The fact that so many died fighting far from home gave me a sense of humble pride. I want the GWOT Memorial to produce that same feeling. I want some kid to be so moved by it that they realize, as an American, they are part of something greater than themselves and understand that there are those who risk their lives to protect that ideal.

This has a lot of potential if it is truly lucrative, because the competition here is the private sector. However, if we manage this centrally, and base it entirely on arbitrary certs, it is doomed to fail. Let units and commanders decide who gets paid and why, and let's start building real organic capabilities across the spectrum.

This is actually really funny.
Outrageous. A now-deleted video from the Arkansas National Guard shows the soldiers sent here by Trump displaying DC flags like war trophies at an event upon returning to their state.

Seriously; who is standing in that area for a view of the Lincoln Memorial? Also, that traffic circle kinda sucks, modifying the patterns would probably be a good thing.

You want a GWOT memorial that makes sense? 1. Stone. Use stone from the various states that lost service members in Iraq and Afghanistan, the colors would also be evocative of the sand in Iraq and the mountains in Afghanistan. Use font and symbology that equates to Section 60. 2. Columns with the recognizable influence of the WTC in NY, Pentagons, and Keystones for Pennsylvania. Use numbers like 9, 11, and 21 to evoke the dates. 3. Center the service members who made the sacrifice. Like the Vietnam memorial, it should make it plain that the real legacy of the GWOT is the sacrifice born of tragedy. You cannot sugarcoat or sanitize that and have a memorial worthy of their memory.

It's a good location, but otherwise this is terrible. It smacks of corporate landscape architecture and does not convey the scale or tragedy of the sacrifices made in what was ultimately a misguided war. It centers neither the service or the honorable intentions of those who served, and instead opts for a bland, reflective mush that says more about how the general public and political classes have sanitized the GWOT and fail to appreciate its legacy.
An early look at the @GWOTMF memorial planned for Washington, D.C, released today. It's planned on what are now athletic fields at the corner of Henry Bacon Drive and Constitution Avenue, near the Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

I don't like it, and there are so many things wrong with it it's difficult to know where to even begin.

The issue here is that virtually any decision taken in a military context can have downstream "life-and-death" implications, so what you end up with is the axiom that AI should never make "final" decisions because AI can never be held accountable.

There are far more use cases like this for autonomous systems than the ones involving weapons that get all the attention. Imagine large scale pre-positioned CASEVAC and SAR, or pre-positioned stocks and refueling points, etc. Lets you put your human capital where it matters most and use drones for necessary but high risk missions where casualties would be unacceptable or counterproductive.
A Navy drone boat (USV) found and rescued the Apache crew from the water, per Centcom spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins. It’s an operation first and a big deal for 5th Fleet’s Task Force 59, the Navy’s first operational AI and drone task force.
