After working in various African nations over the last few years, I am used to wishing colleagues ‘good luck with the upcoming election, I hope it is peaceful’. It speaks volumes about the state of our nation that they are now wishing the same for me.

It’s hard to imagine how anyone can lead such a fundamentally divided country. The rural/urban and education level divisions in the US have grown even larger in this election and are a threat to functional governance at the state and federal level.
