“Too many families in Houston have lost a loved one to a violent, unexpected event just trying to use the transportation system,” said Jay Crossley, executive director of the nonprofit Farm & City who has worked statewide on traffic safety improvements. houstonchronicle.com/news/ho…

“While there are of course disagreements about how to save lives & many examples of the us-vs.-them wars on bicycles & cars, Houston appears to be the only large government that I am aware of that has publicly shifted away from the safe systems approach to ending traffic deaths.”

“Texans can and should demand that all elected officials work honestly and collaboratively … to keep us safe when we are riding in cars and trucks, riding on bicycles, walking or using a wheelchair, or riding in transit,” Crossley said.

People of Austin in Travis or Williamson County- ie constituents of CTRMA! Please take this push poll that wants to justify roadway expansions by Oct 10, but argue for safety. Click on the map & add comments! Stop sprawl subsidy! End freeway expansions! wspengages.com/290ExtensionP…

I'm proud @FarmAndCity & @VisionZeroTexas have supported the smart approach the State of Texas is taking to including autonomous vehicles as just one part of a broad strategy to reduce & end traffic deaths & serious injuries on Texas streets & roads. This is good stuff. #txlege
I had a great morning participating in the Autonomous Trucking & Texas Workshop this morning with Senator @HagenbuchTX and representatives from DMV & DPS. This technology will save lives on TX roads and I was proud to help get this important piece of legislation over the finish line during the 89th session! #txlege

This is personally exciting for me, as this new expanded area includes my house on the north side & our band practice space on the south side, with my office in the middle. With the notable gap of North Lamar north of 183, this now covers most dense activity in Austin's core.

North to South, we're covering more ground in Austin starting today. Safe and fully autonomous Waymo rides, only on @Uber. See you on the road, ATX.

SB 1013 is a simple good traffic safety bill to clarify we have to yield to pedestrians legally using a sidewalk when we’re driving INTO a driveway just like we currently have to do when driving OUT of a driveway. capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup… #txlege

We should not miss this moment to make transformative change for Austin. The Our Future 35 Cap & Stitch Project is a strong step toward a more connected, more livable future and I am eager to work with my colleagues to bring it to life in the coming years. #txlege
Austin-area state lawmakers have weighed in on tomorrow's City Council vote for a potential series of highway 'caps' to cover portions of I-35. More from council's debate yesterday over different funding plans for the program: communityimpact.com/austin/s…

Austin has a once-in-a-generation chance to reconnect our communities. That’s why I joined my colleagues in urging the Council to move forward with Our Future I-35 Cap & Stitch project. This is about more than infrastructure — it’s about building a more connected, livable ATX.

It’s easy to claim we must sacrifice one priority for another. But real leadership finds ways to build equity, connection, and progress — simultaneously. The I-35 caps bring in resources without pulling from housing or climate. We cannot shy from this opportunity.

I hope #ATXCouncil votes for the possibility of sustainable, equitable development of the urban core & doesn’t kill the possibility of all caps to reconnect Austin across the I-35 canyon. Don’t be fooled again by naysayers who kept you from having a great light rail line in 2014

Austin is no longer the largest city in the US without minimum parking mandates. Congratulations on retaking the title, San Jose, CA.

Per @uscensusbureau: ✓ Austin falls to 13th in population nationwide ✓ Fort Worth in 11th but on verge of passing Jacksonville to break into top ten ✓ Three of top five cities in U.S. with largest numerical gains in population in '24 are in Texas #txlege

Yay! The Texas House passed SB 2039, the “Sidewalk Users” bill, (on 2nd reading) to insure people & kids riding bikes, skateboards, rollerblades & similar little human powered vehicles enjoy the protections of the Lisa Torry Smith Act, like pedestrians do today. #txlege

Congratulations Mayor Johnson & Dallas Council Members & the people of Dallas for a tremendous affordability reform today – significantly reducing the heavy costs of parking mandates & allowing more people to live how they want in the Big D! So ... what's up, Houston?
🎉 Dallas, you supported attainable housing again! 🎉 Today, the City Council officially approved its Off-Street Parking & Loading Code Amendment, ushering in a new era of smarter, more flexible parking policies that support housing affordability, walkability, and sustainable growth. Key highlights of today’s parking reforms include: ✅ Eliminating parking minimums downtown and within ½ mile of DART rail and streetcar stations. ✅ Removing parking mandates for office, retail, industrial, and heavy commercial uses (except when adjacent to single-family homes). ✅ Reducing residential parking requirements and improving standards for loading zones and guest parking. ✅ Lowering or eliminating parking minimums for bars, restaurants, historic buildings, and places of worship. ✅ Introducing tiered parking requirements for multifamily developments based on size, with no minimums for developments of 20 homes or fewer. These reforms modernize decades-old rules, empowering neighborhoods and developers to design spaces that prioritize people over parking. Learn more about the changes and what they mean for Dallas: dallascityhall.com/departmen… Thank you to all our speakers, members, and supporters who made this fantastic day for Dallas possible! #DallasHousingForAll #DallasHousingCoalition #ParkingReform
