My first programming teacher gave me my first, and maybe the best, programming advice. “Programmers learn the most by making mistakes. And at the rate you’re going, Jeff, you’re on track to becoming a great programmer.”

I’m not sure which is worse: To believe something without evidence or to not believe something despite the evidence.

After teaching college for for 35 years, watching AI develop for 40 years, and seeing the reactions to ChatGPT, my take is simple: If your test questions can be answered by a robot, you need to ask more interesting questions.

Computer scientists: We built a digital fool who is constantly wrong and makes things up. Marketing: Great! Let’s put it into all our products! Software engineers: We call that beta testing.

So much fun!
One of my favorite @UAlbany traditions is Food for Finals: Late Night BBQ during which the leadership team, faculty & staff served up a late-night meal to our students. We provided nourishment to several thousand students studying for finals. Thanks to all who made this happen!

A old saying: “if you want something done, ask a busy person.” People forget the rest of that sentence: “… until they break.”

February 29 should be a time-freeze holiday. Nothing happens. No work, no deadlines, no stress. If the 28th is Wednesday, March 1 should be Thursday, and Feb 29 is not even a week day. A once every 4 years treat we give ourselves. A day of random acts of kindness.
