Founder - Evolved Thermal Energy, Pres. - Ontario Geothermal Assoc. I help home & building owners make the transition to renewable thermal energy (Heat Pumps).
Geothermal cheaper than cc-ASHP? I had a potential client submit plans yesterday, house to be almost passive house, 12,000btuh Heat, 6,000 clg. No need for variable speed or EVI tech of air source. A small 3/4-1T single stage GSHP with a small loop will cut it. /1
As we build better, GSHPs will be just as or perhaps even more cost competitive than ASHP. ASHP needs advanced tech to perform with outdoor air. A 1 ton single stage GSHP is a super simple device. The loop required can fit horizontally on very little land. Or a small borehole.
This is interesting. What happens when financial markets actually start to price in the fundamentals?
Global Oil Demand Climbs to a Record High in March - JODI Data ief.org/news/global-oil-dema…
I’m genuinely interested in helping advance public understanding and the opportunities for GSHP in Canada. However, I am so much into the grind of building a business that sells GSHPs in order to support such efforts That I don’t get much time to actually do just that. /1
I have to remind myself that the runway is long (hopefully). As long as we can sustain ourselves, and grow. If we can stick around long term, that’s another business on the ground decarbonizing Canadian homes, and another GSHP lifer fighting the good fight. /2
Learn how installing ground source heat pumps to heat and cool your community buildings can help reduce your municipality’s carbon footprint. Join us March 29 to hear from industry experts @EdenEnergyEquip, @Groundheatca, and @JeffwHunter. Learn more: bit.ly/409ddcc
The GTA session on February 21 from 5:30-9pm will be moderated by our own John Fekete, and include @johnsoncontrols' @SMCD_66, ClimateCare Canada’s @victormhyman, Evolved Thermal Energy’s @JeffwHunter, and @ottawacity's Janice Ashworth as speakers.
If your situation allows a ground-source heat pump (sometimes called 'geothermal'), it is far more efficient than air-source — especially in areas where it gets very cold or very hot.

I’m starting to wonder what impact electrifying HVAC with ASHPs that suffer in peak conditions will have on emissions. To manage the peaks will grid operators turn to using more fossil energy? (I think so), So how does that impact emissions reduction of each home electrifying?
Getting emails from consumers wanting a heat pump on this the first weekend in august. I’m a relatively new business, with new digital infrastructure. If they found me, I’d say the heat pump market in Ontario is hot, fall will likely be very busy for businesses in this space.
Just want to mark this occasion with a social post. We are doing a full digital twin of a farm house next week, in order to accurately calculate room by room energy needs, for full electrification, and to use as a tool for sourcing contractors. I’m excited.
We take a lot of work out of the upfront process for the contractor. Here’s the job, here’s the specs, here’s the major equipment pricing (wholesale), you price it, it’s your customer now. We support the long term warranty.
Exactly “0” (zero) contractors have said no to this process so far. Why would they? … There is lots of value here for them, we make life easier. This is only part of the system we have designed to help electrify as many homes as we can get our hands on.
