The importance of oral language in literacy can’t be overstated. Researchers like Tiffany Hogan (Harvard), Maggie Snowling & Charles Hulme (Oxford), Trina Spencer, and Doug Peterson are producing powerful evidence: when we focus on developing children’s oral language, reading and writing outcomes improve dramatically. It doesn’t just help kids start reading. It strengthens comprehension, vocabulary, and writing all the way through school. Before strong readers… come strong talkers. I’ll be sharing more about this at the parent conference—and why conversation, storytelling, and rich language at home matter more than most people realize. @DyslexiaIDA @NationalParents @reading_league

Today, my school celebrated Read Across America. My principal asked us to invite guest readers who were special to us, so I invited my Mom. She did everything to support my journey as a reader. It was a privilege to have her read to my students today! #ReadAcrossAmerica

“Typically, as kids learn to read, a region known as the visual word form area develops within the brain. In children who are dyslexic, that region is smaller or even absent.” Yet, another reason why early identification and intervention are critical for kids with dyslexia. med.stanford.edu/news/all-ne…

Here’s what I often see in small groups: Feedback to correct student errors is delayed. Student mistakes should lead to immediate prompting or re-modeling, followed by another attempt. More practices lead to more learning.

Peer-reviewed research has shown definitively that “dyslexia-friendly” fonts don’t meaningfully improve reading. Yet parents keep getting sold this crap. Thank you @74Million for finally saying it in popular media. Evidence > marketing scams. #Dyslexia #ScienceMatters the74million.org/article/cha…
