ALT WINTER STORM TIMELINE: THU, DEC 22 - FRI, DEC 23 - Becoming very cold & windy Wed night into Thu - Snow beginning late Thu, transitioning into sleet & freezing rain Thu night - Anyone with travel plans late Thu or Fri should reconsider or plan accordingly Thursday: - Starting out dry, cold, & windy - Snow begins in the evening - Wind chills around zero degrees in the Portland metro. Below zero in the Gorge. Teens from Salem southward. Thursday night: - Very cold & windy - Snow will quickly transition to sleet & freezing rain, except in the Gorge - Significant ice accumulations possible (around 0.1-0.3 across SW Washington & most of NW Oregon, higher amounts possible in the Gorge and North Oregon Coast Range) Friday: - Freezing rain continues for many locations, mainly from Salem northward - Snow in the Gorge will gradually transition to sleet & freezing rain East winds will slowly weaken Friday night: -Freezing rain likely continues in the Gorge -Rain elsewhere as temps warm above 32
