So exciting when you know the singer. Only tuned in for the anthem but stayed for game. MrJenEng was Matt’s 1st soccer coach & I had a couple of stints as team manager as he played with our son. Proud when he made Pararoos team, proud listening to him sing the national anthem
Here's the National Anthem of Ecuador performed by Mateo Palaces, as well as the National Anthem of Australia, performed by @Pararoos Defensive Midfielder, Matt Hearne!! Watch the @Socceroos play #Ecuador now, Live & Free on 10! πŸ“Ί 10play.com.au/live #AUSvECU #Socceroos

On #IWD2023 have been thinking about women who mentored me when I started in edu. Had quit classroom teaching, working as a clerk for BoS. Rosemary Hafner, Inspector of Sci & Margaret Watts, SEO2 showed me how to be a leader in life and education. Oh how I wish they were here now

Most of the time I am pretty confident I am in the right place doing the right thing career-wise and then you go to some PL and have a sliding doors moment and wonder are you really in the right place, doing the right thing? #existentialcrisis #yesiaminmyfifties

How do you know your children and their friends are really adults? At the small 21st birthday gathering they do not touch the 2nd tray of hot chips but ask if there is more salad.

Best thing about dept’s newish double authentication. When you travel OS in your holidays & forget to change the number to your personal phone, it is really difficult to access your work emails. Forced turning off of notifications for those who find it difficult.

1 of those days: reports missing, tech issues, car bingle. But also an amazing lunch, shout out from colleagues & old friends, elevator run-ins with people who remembered my name and fun times teaching Mr20 to make an omelette for a can’t-be-stuffed dinner. A good day on balance

Hello hive mind. This baby has fallen from its nest in strong winds. Still breathing (rapidly) but not moving much. Do I call wires? Take it to the vet just wait for nature to take its course? Not even sure of the species

My flannel flowers were in full bloom and spectacular this year. So spectacular, someone stole the whole plant from the garden. The photo is early in the season. The plant was completely covered in blooms yesterday. The least they could have done was pull a few weeds as well.

Enola Holmes 2 is all sorts of wonderful. As a stand alone, as a part 2, as an extension of the Sherlock Holmes narrative and as a testament to the power of a union. It is a win win. Do yourself a favour people.

When Mr20 and Mr23 were 11 and 8, we explained that they could wait up on Christmas Eve and meet Santa but once you have met him, he no longer brings you gifts. They have both informed me today that they will not be waiting up to meet Santa again this year FFS

NSW draft 7-10 science syllabus has include the nature and practice of science and I am very happy with this. Some strengthening of the history and nature of science needed and the addition of hypotheses, theories and laws would make it even better, however 1/3

The second content statement p16: Science knowledge can be represented in branches of biology, chemistry, physics and geology And yet they have forced content artificially into interdisciplinary focus areas? It is confusing for teachers. It is confusing for students. 2/3

Please go back to organising the content into the branches but strengthen the interdisciplinary nature of science by explicitly making the links with content statements or suggestions. 3/3

I have some criticisms about the NSW draft 7-10 Science syllabus, I will probably post about them here, but I want to go in the record first with a positive: I LOVE β€˜Creating written texts in Science 7–10’ (page 10). Everything. All of it. That is all. educationstandards.nsw.edu.a……

Further interrogation of NSW draft science syllabus has me worried. NESA say they adopt & adapt ACv9. I see tenuous adoption & lots of adaptation. To mash a bio metaphor. The adaption looks more like a dangerous mutant rather than than a trait that make science the fittest 1/5

The intro of data science is also fabulous but seems cognitively too high for each stage. Also, both data & nature and practice overlap with working scientifically - which has 2 sets of different outcomes in table and dot point form. 4/5

And ultimately, it is impossible to comment on any of it without some sort of conceptual framework k-12. Does one exist? One would assume it is the ACv9 but again with the bio metaphor the 7-10 draft is an unrecognisable mutant. 5/5
