I don't like illusions and am especially unfond of false hope so I'm glad the Big Important Book People have been saying things out loud and on the record of late.
No surprise the closer you get to an industry's "head" the more removed you find yourself from its hands and heart.

My first book came out in the middle of a pandemic and my second came out just when B&N was deciding not to carry hardcover #mglit. It's a discouraging way to start a career, frankly. But I've gotten great trade reviews and readers who find them seem to connect. So π§΅

If you order from @mainstreetbooks with a note at checkout I can sign a copy for you! Talk to your local stores about new books. Ask your libraries to get copies. Leave reviews so other readers can find new reads. Hardcovers are more money than paperbacks, but they last longer.

LARK AND THE WILD HUNT comes out in the UK tomorrow and I am *so* thrilled to think about my thorny, twisty, tricky story crossing the ocean. I've also found out it's going to be translated, which is a HUGE author dream of mine. (I'll announce more when I can).π²ππ¦π¦ππβ³ποΈπ²

A female cardinal is DETERMINED to fly in my house. She has spent the last two days flying from one window to another, pecking and testing the glass. I'm afraid she's going to hurt herself, but neither my cats nor I have been successful at scaring her off. What should I do??

I've had a busy couple of weeks signing copies of LARK AND THE WILD HUNT, doing virtual talks, and sorting out some medical stuff (which is "complicated but likely nothing to worry about yet"). Now it's time to write a new book! ...or try to, anyway. #secretprojects
