Is sprawling urban growth or compact development better for biodiversity and other ecological outcomes? We reviewed the science, and evidence to date is mixed. Our paper offers suggestions for studies that can fully test alternative urban configurations.

After reviewing the announced 2022-23 stipends for bioscience and humanities/social science Ph.D. programs at twelve institutions, we found that only TWO universities, Princeton and Brown, pay more than the local cost of living. Public universities pay even less. 2/x

Proud to have contributed science to this fiscal risk analysis for the White House OMB.
We projected wildfire area to more than triple, and federal fire suppression spending to increase by $1.6 billion by 2100.
The analyses also found that the Federal Government could spend up to $128 billion annually on just six types of Federal expenditure:
- coastal disaster relief
- flood insurance
- crop insurance
- healthcare insurance
- wildland fire suppression
- flooding at Federal facilities
