Due to a sudden change in State Department policy, hundreds, maybe thousands, of H-1B visa holders have been stuck in India for months, separated from their homes and families. My latest for the @sfstandard. sfstandard.com/2026/03/18/h1…

For the first time yesterday, I experienced the new @alamodrafthouse QR code ordering system and I can tell you it’s truly awful. Rather than making ordering food and drink more efficient, it actually adds steps to the process AND if you want to order additional items during the film you HAVE to open your phone. No, your cute reference to that irony in your How To Alamo video doesn’t negate how ridiculous this is. Please don’t cut corners with your staff and revert back to physical menus and order cards.

Evictions in San Francisco are at a 10-year high, and nowhere is that more evident than at SF housing court. There, every Tuesday morning, poor, disabled, and mostly Black tenants desperately plea for one more week in their homes. My latest for the @sfstandard.
In a city of AI riches and skyrocketing rents, housing evictions hit a 10-year high in 2025 — and this year is trending even worse. 📝: @JesseAlejandro sfstandard.com/2026/05/18/la…

The King-Marcus Garvey Square Cooperative was established in 1978 to protect Black families in the Fillmore from displacement. Today, the co-op is a symbol of a rising eviction crisis. 📝: Jesse Alejandro Cottrell sfstandard.com/2026/05/07/fi…

“To many in progressive criminal justice reform circles, Brooke Jenkins’ willingness to put more people behind bars conflicts with her sometimes soaring rhetoric around prison reform and racial justice.” My latest for the @sfstandard. sfstandard.com/2026/04/10/di…

The Bay Area's transit systems face an existential threat that could kill lines, close stations, and leave travelers stranded after 9pm. For PST, I spoke to @leahygarrett about how afraid we should be (very) and the ballot measures trying to fix everything before it's too late.
This week on "PST," BART and Muni face historic deficits. Stations could close; lines could vanish, and two November ballot measures may be their only lifeline. SPUR’s Laura Tolkoff and @leahygarrett weigh in on the crisis. 📝: @JesseAlejandro sfstandard.com/pacific-stand…

"Nearly five years." Investigative journalism takes years and years. The investment is immense, and always worth it, and, in the era of "hot takes" and ephemeral "content," rigorously reported journalistic work is needed more than ever. We must keep supporting investigative journalism. From @mannyNYT, lead reporter of the blockbuster piece on Cesar Chavez ⤵️

How did one man alleged of pimping and financially abusing multiple women spend years rubbing shoulders with some of San Francisco's richest and most powerful? My brilliant colleague @anyaviolet joined us to explain on the latest episode of @sfstandard's Pacific Standard Time.
A little behind-the-scenes on how I investigated sex trafficking allegations in some of SF's most elite and powerful circles. Thanks @JesseAlejandro and @EmilyDreyfuss for having me on the show!

When Replit CEO Amjad Masad started to speak up about Palestine in 2023, he faced intense backlash in the tech world. Fellow founders stopped inviting him to events and supporting his business, while others called him a “terrorist sympathizer.” Masad joined “Pacific Standard Time” for a special episode at The Standard and Charter’s Leading With AI Summit to chat about “contrarianism” in Silicon Valley, the future of work, and more. Speaking openly about supporting Palestine cost Amjad Masad business opportunities and led to his social ostracization. ...Until his company took off and gained a multi billion dollar valuation. Apparently, the price of political dissent in Silicon Valley is a literal price.
