It was Dec 17, 1980. I was 12. Winnipeg was in the NHL but after a poor inaugural year the team was in a record breaking winless streak. After starting the year 1-2-0, they had gone 0-21-7. In town were the Rangers led by Phil Esposito who was in his 18th and final year.
