This fiery 70-minute performance featuring "Machine Gun," "Ezy Ryder," "Red House," and many more was thankfully captured on tape by fans in the audience. "I’m gonna wave my freak flag high ..." "If 6 Was 9" represented yet another bold creative leap forward for Jimi Hendrix. It was recorded over the course of two days (May 4-5, 1967) at Olympic Studios. "Section A" was the song's opening section while "Section B" began where the vocals come into form. The second half was also described as "Symphony Of Experience" on the tape box. "I adore 'If 6 Was 9'," explained Hendrix. "That was a complete jam session, then we put the words on afterwards. That's me on flute. Gary Leeds and Graham Nash did some foot stomping, and that's (Chas) Chandler's big feet on the fade-out. 'If 6 Was 9' is what you call a great feeling of blues." Featured on The Experience's sophomore album AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE, the track was also prominently featured in the 1969 film and soundtrack for EASY RIDER.

On June 12, 1970 the BAND OF GYPSYS album made its UK debut on Track Records. Absent on this release was the psychedelic solarized album artwork of Jimi Hendrix as featured on the original US release; here being replaced by a portrait of inanimate dolls of Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Bob Dylan and BBC DJ John Peel. This original UK pressing has since earned the nickname "the puppet cover." #BandOfGypsys #Hendrix #JimiHendrix

On June 11, 1968 Mitch Mitchell joined Jimi Hendrix at Record Plant studio in New York where the duo developed the new instrumental "Inside Out" with the second take having Jimi's guitar directed through a Leslie amplifier. The track's basic guitar part influenced future recordings of "Ezy Ryder." "Inside Out" is featured on the PEOPLE, HELL AND ANGELS release. #JimiHendrix #RecordPlant #InsideOut #WestCoastSeattleBoy

On June 9, 1970, The Jimi Hendrix Experience performed at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, TN. While we discovered a few photographs of this performance in the past, a couple years ago we heard from Eddie Webb, a fan who attended the performance who relayed the set list and guitars played that night. The show featured “Freedom,” “Lover Man, “ and “Red House,” (played on Gibson Flying V); “Message To Love,” “Hear My Train A Comin’,” “Ezy Ryder, “ and “Room Full Of Mirrors” (played on a black Fender Stratocaster, at which point Jimi broke a string during “Room Full Of Mirrors”). Moving to a white Stratocaster, “Machine Gun” and “Hey Joe” were performed, followed by closing numbers (all performed on his black Stratocaster) including “Foxey Lady,” “Star Spangled Banner,” “Purple Haze,” and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return).” Did you see Hendrix in concert? "Little Wing" debuted on The Jimi Hendrix Experience's sophomore album release AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE. The song had been in development for some time prior to the October 25, 1967 sessions. Two weeks earlier, Hendrix had recorded a forecful instrumental demo of what would late develop as "Angel," and marked it "Little Wing." That rendition bore little resemblance to this magnificent recording. After the first take, Chas Chandler called the group into the control room to review their work. "Chas knew right away what was needed," remembers Eddie Kramer. "He had Jimi slow the tempo down and try it again." That master version, featured in this new music video, was finally completed on October 31, 1967 at Olympic Studios, and to this day, remains one of Jimi's most popular recordings of all time.
