Better yet, being invited to the Oneida (Tenn.) coachβs house after a high school playoff game and filing my story sitting in his den. Couplers worked beautifully from his land line. The late coach Jim May. Forever indebted to him and his kindness to a clueless 19-year-old aspiring sports writer. We all need people like Coach May along the way on our journey.

If you've covered rural America high school football as a newspaper reporter using a TRS-80 and those wretched couplers, the practice of scribbling copious, barely legible notes never leaves you.
