Blessed new year! Apologies for a lapse in posting. I have been engaged with transitioning my girls out of public school. It gets interesting when even the VP of the school has no idea what forms I need to fill up... Because such things are simply "not done" in Singapore.

There is a difference between: "So you decided to homeschool your kids?" and "So you decided to allow homeschool as an option for your kids?" The 1st still shows top-down mentality while the 2nd honours the child's choices.

My girls wrote some simple automation code last night on their own. We woke up to check the server. Their experiment was a success, with enough to improve on. They're pumped to log in remotely to test more concepts without graphics. CLI FTW.

Teach your kids to navigate the world using a perpetual, social game with useful educational parallels. Especially great for developing readers and writers! (Which my girls are) My family has fun together while I craft learning journeys with it. DM me for info. @LearningToan

You don't have to wait until your kids pass some age level to teach them stuff like: SSH Relational databases Coding syntax The limiters on your kids tend to be externally imposed and largely artificial. Find what motivates them, then impart skills that add value.

Today, my girls learnt about business moats. Specifically about intellectual property. Distinguishing between: 🔸copyrights 🔸patents 🔸trade secrets Never too young to learn what gives you (and others) competitive advantages.

There's a way to run meetings effectively. I imparted the framework to my girls today in a 30 minute meeting. It's amazing how motivated children can be, discussing matters like the use of organisational charts and agendas... When the learning journey uses a game they enjoy.

My girls were motivated to conduct an experiment yesterday, using a creative solution that did not occur to me. The results were disappointing. But today, there was a bounce-back with new ideas based on the findings. Constant innovation in progress. 😀

Just 1 question from my 12 yr old was all it took to: 1. Optimise a process left untouched for years 2. Rethink old ways of doing things And now my girls are learning to use internet servers with hardcore command lines.

Entering the market Studying the entrenched school serving my target niche, I discover: 🔸They do group sessions 🔸I don't With me, you get masterclass mentorship from day 1, customised to your individual needs and requirements. Not possible with a group and fixed syllabus.

(Don’t obsess over all the things you cannot do) If you spent all your time making a list of what you cannot do, you will never get to doing what you actually are able to. Use what you have to do what you can.

Entrepreneur lesson for today: 1 way of creating value - saving people's time My girls are working on their flowcharting skills to make diagrams that require lots of research work. And more importantly, has not been done by anyone else yet. They will sell a new book soon. 😃

Christmas gifts for my kids. You can only improve what you measure. Getting data is the 1st step. Doing something about it will be the next. ⚡️

Remember that you are a leader the moment you have followers. You can practice caring even if you only have 1. Make it a habit as early as possible.

The danger of the birds-eye view The closest/clearest thing might be the last thing to work on. Like looking at a wedding cake top-down. You see the end clearest at the top tier, but it obstructs the full view of the lower foundational tiers it's built on and is built first.

Helpful vs helpless One measure we use to gauge our kids' chosen learning paths is to see how helpful or helpless they are. Can they help themselves or are they always dependent on someone giving them directions and solutions? Are they helping others?

Creating sustainable routines My girls have decided to start their mornings with 1hr physical activity. To be consistent, they wrote research notes on what they would be most motivated to keep doing. For accountability, they do it when I do my 1hr walk. Today, badminton.

Never too young to start building versatile mindsets. Last week, my kids went to a Fair exclusively for shops run by kids. They acted as reporters and went around interviewing the stall owners. Now with data in hand, they are planning their own business to launch in 2023.
