I joined Tesla to bring in agile, but quickly found out Tesla had a lot to teach. ABI-agile.com. My startup became the largest EV Race Team in Japan?

ABB is a large international hardware company. ABB makes electric power systems, including a lot of the large electrical hardware at many Tesla Supercharger installations around the world. ABB restructured parts of their company, some of the product engineering parts and some of HR and other areas, to give the engineers more authority. The leader said they wanted real agile, where engineers don't wait to be told what products to build, but proactively try products in the market to find what helps customers and grows the company. That was 3 years ago. They wanted to re-energize the staff. They requested me to give a shocking, exciting, inspiring keynote about engineers as product leaders to reduce waiting and increase innovation. They joined from offices in Italy and Switzerland and I joined remote from Japan. I am so so grateful the ABB sponsors then let me share the recording publicly.

For social harmony, dotoku is the most useful visa criteria. More than salary, “points”, or current citizenship. The Japanese citizens prove this every day. Regardless of salary, “points” (school name, job description), and without choosing where they were born, the common point is their education in dotoku. And Japan is safe, and calm, and clean.

道徳心は社会の調和を保つ上で確かに重要ですね。ビザ申請の際にそうした側面を考慮するのは、日本らしさを守る上で大切な視点かもしれません。

This.
When most Silicone Valley interviews are done in decorative studios and offices, I like the interviews done in the factory, the heart of production, the most.

How are you warming up for the SPCX IPO? Here in Japan it’s 8:30pm already. 🥳

I am buying shares for my kids. I feel like a good father. Actually, top-tier "good father" feeling while showing the kids the trading site, showing how I calculated the trade, placing it with them.
Yes, I am buying SPCX at $135.

A share of TSLA priced at the June 29, 2010 IPO was $17. After the 5-for-1 split (2020) and 3-for-1 split (2022), that becomes 15 shares today. As of the June 11, 2026 close at $399.15, your position would be worth **$5,987**.

The SpaceX IPO is a direct way to efficiently support a space-fairing future. And, bizarrely, it will even be profitable for me to do so. I’m having a taco party here in Japan to watch the IPO, 10:30pm Japan time.

SpaceX under the leadership of @elonmusk is a great testament to engineering, innovation, and relentless drive to never give up. Congrats to the entire team @SpaceX for the IPO tomorrow! Well deserved.

Some older systems have tightly coupled or monolithic architectures. If drastically changing the architecture (micro-services) is cost-prohibitive, would applying Agile methodologies be difficult or ineffective? This is a Good question! The solution involves 2 points: point 1: A large monolithic project has a success rate of being on time and on budget only 3% of the time (Standish Group). So the risk is extra-ordinarily high. So what can we do? point 2: if we introduce service architecture at the rate of one new service per week (or faster), and then comment-out the code that was replaced, it is less expensive then continuing to the end with monolithic architecture. So, this is actually the only answer that prevents over-work and cost over-runs, or more likely the project being canceled as a total failure.

Is it effective to always conduct Mob work? I'd like to know if there are any points to consider when deciding on the ratio of Mob work to individual work. This is a frequently asked question, so please let me reply here for anyone who is considers this question: A: Individual work may be faster in the short term. But the only way to increase cross-functional skill is group work. And the most effective way to prevent siloed knowlege is group work. And the fastest way to increase engineering skill and find the most creative solution is AI assisted group work. So, ideally, there is only AI assisted group work. This is what the fastest companies do. But maybe your developers are scared or nervous. So I recommend starting with 1 hour of AI assisted group work each day.

I visited a closed school, in souther Japan, as part of a government delegation. I think. My Japanese skill is still low and I frequently misunderstand even essential facts. But, I was invited, and I attended. Details in comments.

And, here are the allowed businesses at another closed school, 🏫, in the same area: kitakyu-pivot.jp/ do you see robotics, AI, solar power development? Do you see an ambitious, globally relevant future? I see a lovable form of only things that existed in feudal times.

The current wish is for more participation in the activities currently hosted in these former schools, and more people to rent the available classrooms to generate income for the towns.
