Tread Athlete
@JoeyColucci6 is a freak athlete with a monstrous upside, an athlete update from Performance Coach @TyGermanowski 🔥
When I started working with Joey, he thought he was a cut-ride guy and was struggling to find a consistent profile with his fastball.
After looking at his numbers, it was clear he was an extreme supinator and fit the perfect mold for someone to try seam-shifted sinkers. After playing with some grips, we were able to get the sinker averaging less than 10 IVB. We were also able to add a bridge pitch by incorporating a mid-upper 80’s cutter to compliment the sinker/sweeper mix.
Apart from arsenal changes, Joey also made some impressive yet subtle mechanical adjustments. Joey’s lowest hanging fruit in his delivery were early hip extension and early torso rotation, both limiting his ability to catch the arm in a deep "flip-up" position.
We were able to iron these things out in his plyo work by utilizing the janitor drill and working out of an abbreviated arm action. These changes helped take Joey from in-game velocity of 88-91 to now comfortably sitting 90-94 and grabbing a 95 when he needs it.
He's also going off at Harford, recording 67 Ks in 49 IP with a 1.65 ERA 🤯
Excited to see him continue to compete this season, before getting back after it this offseason! He also just committed to UVA 💪
